Yu Xiang had chosen a fitting butterfly misty dress for the Ninth Princess and also helped her put on a tenderly rosy peach blossom makeup. Her hair was pulled into vertical buns with butterfly hair pins inserted on each side that as she walked, the wings of the butterfly will flap slightly, as if it will fly away in the next instant.

The Ninth Princess is originally delicate and adorable. This style of dressing makes her look more like a porcelain doll that’s indescribably zestful and lively. Facing the mirror, she turned from left to right then wrapped her arms around Lotus seed cake’s neck and smiled foolishly.

“There’s no need to be presumptuously smug. The time is almost up.” Yu Xiang pinched the soft flesh on her cheek.

Only then did the Ninth Princess leave the dressing table reluctantly. In order to make the butterfly wings flap, she skipped and bounced which caused the two court ladies laughing all the way.

When they arrived at the main hall, Old Madam had indeed been waiting for a long time. Smiling, she greeted the Ninth Princess and checked the gift list before heading out. Just as they walked to the gate, she saw Lin Shi and Yu Miao Qi standing in front, waiting.

“Ancestor, daughter-in-law is ready too, so let’s go now.” Lin Shi took a few steps forward and supported Old Madam spontaneously. Yu Miao Qi smiled faintly at the Ninth Princess, “This subject daughter has met the Ninth Princess. Dressing up like this, Princess is even more beautiful than the colorful butterflies in the sky.”

Who doesn’t like to be complimented? The Ninth Princess blushed and made some modest remarks yet her small mouth was grinning broadly, the joyful look on her face could not be curbed. Yu Xiang could embarrass Yu Miao Qi in public but she could not do the same to Lin Shi, hence she remained reticent.

Seeing this, Lin Shi was somewhat relieved and assisted Old Madam towards the gate.

Old Madam is someone keen on face-saving. With the Ninth Princess and the two court ladies watching from the sidelines, she could not shoo them away and just walked forward without saying a word.

The Crown Princess has been bedridden, hence she failed to learn that the charcoal-burning maidservant who was captured at that time was the Di[1] young miss of Yu manor. After her condition eased up a little, she had also made clear not to implicate the innocent and asked the imperial guard to release her. Considering the visage of his close friend and also the sake of the girl’s reputation, the Crown Prince was discreet about the matter as he realized Yu Miao Qi was not at fault and even sent over many gifts as means to help her get over the shock.

As both masters are kind and magnanimous, the subject should not reach for a yard after getting an inch. It has only been a month since the incident, so how could the person be brought along and appeared in the Crown Prince residence, isn’t this gratuitously adding bad luck to the Crown Princess? Moreover, with Yu Miao Qi’s kind of destiny, not knowing if she will jinx anyone again.

Old Madam’s steps became much slower when the gate came into sight and eventually pinched hard on Lin Shi’s wrist. Lin Shi looked at her nervously with earnest begging in her eyes.

So eager to go show her face in the Crown Prince residence, the idea of becoming the Crown Princess’ successor must have been formulated seeing that the Crown Princess is seriously ill? But the person is still nicely alive, shouldn’t greed have its limit too! A gush of hostility seethe in the mind of Old Madam, wishing she could pick her walking cane up and whack both Lin Shi and Yu Miao Qi severely.

Once stepping out of the gate, the Ninth Princess and Yu Xiang turned to look back. Old Madam smiled and waved at them, “Requesting the Princess to take this subject’s granddaughter and go ahead first. This subject has left something behind and needed to go back to fetch it personally.”

Not doubting her words, the Ninth Princess pulled Yu Xiang’s sleeve and walked towards her luxurious looking carriage. Yu Miao Qi caught up spontaneously, as if not seeing Old Madam’s hint wanting her to stay.

After the Ninth Princess boarded the carriage, she opened her arms wide and smiled, “Hurriedly come up, Lotus seed cake. I will catch you. Be careful of your head, your feet and your elbows.”

Repeatedly responding to her, Yu Xiang immediately hugged Little Qiu’er once she got into the carriage and zealously kissed her twice. The Ninth Princess also kissed her back twice before they both giggled and laughed out loud.

Hugging each other and making merry, they saw the court ladies helping Yu Miao Qi into the carriage. As Old Madam said ‘take this subject’s granddaughter and go ahead first’ without specifying which granddaughter, the court ladies naturally thought to bring both of them together.

Yu Miao Qi is also a master of thick-skinned. Knowing that Old Madam will surely not make things difficult for herself in front of the Ninth Princess, she took advantage of this loophole and followed closely along.

At this moment, Old Madam was forcefully pinching Lin Shi’s wrist with eyes igniting blazes of anger and glaring at Yu Miao Qi who had already boarded the carriage. As if seeing nothing at all, Yu Miao Qi put down the carriage curtain and smilingly stated, “The sun is a little hot as it’s now late spring and early summer, so it’s better to put the curtain down to avoid sunburn the Princess’ delicate skin.”

The two court ladies did feel that the sunlight was harsh too, so they lowered the curtain on the other side then arched their backs and left to travel with Tao Hong and Liu Lu in the next carriage.

Through the gap of the carriage curtain, Yu Xiang merely saw Old Madam expressionlessly say something while Lin Shi seemingly supported her but in reality she (LS) was actually being restrained. Her countenance changed splendidly from flush to pale then from pale to purplish which was clear Old Madam must have surely said something unpleasant.

Yu Xiang only retracted her gaze once the carriage slowly set in motion then took out a plate of pastries from the hidden compartment and placed it on the small table. Picking up one piece in each hand, the Ninth Princess ate the one in her left hand while fed Lotus seed cake with her right hand, looking satisfied but showing no interest in Yu Miao Qi.

Without saying much, Yu Miao Qi sat meekly in a corner of the carriage.

Once Yu Xiang finished eating the pastry, she declined Little Qiu’er feeding again but raised her chin and scornfully smiled at Yu Miao Qi, “Elder Sister, what’s the next verse for ‘when the water is clear, there will be no fish’?”

Yu Miao Qi hesitated for a moment before replying, “The next verse is when people are scrutinized, there will be no followers.”

The meaning of this phrase is extremely astute people will lose their friends. Suspecting Yu Xiang might be taunting her vaguely, Yu Miao Qi, however, realized in the next instant that Yu Xiang’s mouth is far more vicious than any sharp weapon in the world.

“Elder Sister is wrong. It’s when people are despicable, there will be no match.” Yu Xiang covered her mouth and chuckled lightly then said the words slowly, “To put it in layman’s terms, it means shameless people are invincible. So, Elder Sister, you are already invincible. Congratulations.”

Clasping both hands in front of her, she bowed slightly. Her appearance was indescribably delicate and cute yet in Yu Miao Qi’s opinion, she was no less than the most hideous-looking evil spirit.

The Ninth Princess who was eating the pastry suddenly burst into laughter, tapped the small table and commended, “The verses are very interesting. When the water is clear, there will be no fish, when people are despicable, there will be no match. Shameless people are invincible … it’s truly coherent and appropriate. You are so talented, Lotus seed cake!”

Clenching her chest, Yu Miao Qi silently swallowed the mouthful of blood that had welled up to her throat.
