The soldier who guided me to an empty tent told me to wait here for a while before disappearing.
This was apparently a place for meetings and at the centre of the tent was an empty table where several chairs were lined up.
He told me to wait, so it was okay to take a seat, wasn’t it?
I pulled out the furthest chair and sat down. I refrained from sprawling myself on the table and released a big sigh.
What an intense day it has been.
From the early morning, the war started and monsters also invaded, but once we repelled them off, things didn’t simply end there. I passed the duty to another unit and then I went to visit my injured subordinates at the first-aid station.
Everyone, thank you for working your ass off until you collapsed. The potion-sickness might feel terrible for now, but with the purity level of general potions, you should recover without side-effects after a night’s rest. Just bear with it.
Unfortunately, there was no specific medicine that was effective for potion-sickness, unlike when you get drunk on liquor.
And then, in the evening, there was the messy thing with the guild staff; and later that weird advance that Led-sama tried to make on me; and finally, I got escorted to Nadal.
Nonetheless, the day was far from over.
I bet it would be a questioning session from now on… As I pondered over that listlessly, Nadal entered.
“Ah, just sit where you are.”
He stopped me when I was about to stand up and headed towards a corner of the tent. He poured water from a water jug into a wooden cup, and gulped it down all at once, looking battered. He refilled the cup and looked at me.
“Want a drink?”
“Yes.”
He nodded and poured water into another cup.
I thanked him as he passed me the cup and drank the contents all at once.
He laughed as he brought over the jug and sat in front of me.
“…As expected, you are indeed a ‘reincarnator’.”
“What is it, so suddenly?”
“Nah, I just felt something was off when I met you for the first time, and I got it right. Kalya. You, you said you lived deep in the Gerius mountains for a long time, didn’t you?”
I nodded in affirmation, and Nadal also nodded while laughing.
“That might truly be the case. You know, I am already used to it so I don’t really mind, but if it was any other commoner who was told to ‘wait here’, no one would actually sit down. They would just stand in the corner and wait there, and when they see the nobles, they would prostrate and wait for commands. Even when offered water, it was out of the question to actually drink it.
––Such social disparity could not be understood by reincarnators. The world they were from had no nobles or commoners, they said.”
My eyes opened wide in shock, while Nadal wryly smiled as he continued.
“And then, I was told that the name ‘Nadal Courtray’ was familiar to almost all of them. Actually, my Master who taught me about sword was a reincarnator.
He taught me a lot of things. Swordsmanship, the relation between this world and the game, and the existence of ‘Sacred-sword’ Nadal as well.”
…I basically want to be on the reincarnators’ side. Most of you never forget about the good deeds you’ve received. You love this world and don’t even mind sacrificing yourselves for this world’s good. In that case, as long as you are not my enemy, I, as the ‘Sacred-sword Nadal’ will be on your side just like in the game.1
“Kalya. On that basis, may I continue to ask questions?”
At Nadal’s word, I nodded silently.
“Kalya. When you died in your previous life, you were already an adult, weren’t you?”
I didn’t realize it, the water in my cup had turned into liquor.
The guy who brought out the liquor from somewhere asked me that question as he poured it into my cup.
“You can tell?”
Once I affirmed, he joyfully grinned at me.
“Somewhat. You seem to be ignorant of common sense as you lived in deep mountains, yet you are well-mannered. Among the reincarnators, a lot of them are outrageous kids. As my master said, ‘It can’t be helped as the target age was young’.
In that world, they died young, and then they were discovered here as reincarnators before their coming-of-age. At the Adventurers Guild, they are taught about the common sense of this world, but those with higher levels in their previous life, they tend to have strong personalities.”
“Ahh, I think I understand the situation. I kind of feel apologetic for that.”
They must have gotten the incurable ‘Chuunibyou’ 2… I got embarrassed talking about this as I could sense some of the symptoms within me as well.
Talking with Nadal who was well-informed of the situation was truly fun and interesting, but at the same time, I felt attacked.
Nadal’s master who had passed away was an SS-rank one-handed swordmaster.
For reincarnators above SS-rank, they feel inadequate with the lukewarm level 3 of the Central Nations, so most of them head to the remote regions and do not return.
However, he remained in the Central and continued to teach swordsmanship to Nadal and his descendants.
––The flow of time here, in the world that resembles ‘Golden Dawn’, compared to my past life in Japan is different.
When I died in my previous world, it was already the third year since the game launched. According to the records here, a reincarnator first made an appearance 900 years ago. It is possible that 300 years in this world equalled a year in Japan.
Whatever, for someone who has already undergone the getting hit-by-truck reincarnation, anything works.
I don’t think that I can return to Japan again.
In that case, I could only live this new life in this isekai 4that is similar to the game. Fortunately, the skills obtained in-game were all inherited.
Just like how I had fun playing ‘Golden Dawn’, I should enjoy this new life as well.
“I really was taken great care of by my Master. I, who was slow in learning, could finally wield ‘Hanachirusato’, and it was all thanks to him. His last wish was for me to give assistance to reincarnators like him who would come to this world.”
Nadal looked at me, as he smiled with narrowed purple eyes.
“Kalya. I also have my position. The position as the Nadal Courtray of this world, which is not a game. But as long as my position allows, I will be your… you reincarnators’ helper.”
Nadal Courtray who was an NPC is no longer an AI who moved with the scenarios, he is his own person.
Nevertheless, just like in the game, he surely is an existence worthy of trust.
––But then again, I am a craftsman so I never actually played his scenario that was meant for the combat-types.
chocolala comments:
Yeay, our protagonist found someone he can trust. Like a genuine friend (Nadal is a widower with a grown child, so really, he’s not the romantic interest). But he is indeed an important character which would impact our Kalya greatly, so stay tuned!
jaylex comments:
Nadal, you heroic man! I didn’t know he is older (like around 50s is what I’m imagining) and has a grown kid??! Will you accept our Kalya as a son-in-law, hm? Please help guide our protagonist in the right direction, as his common sense may not be as common ;P
