Yeay, another shoutout to Beverly for the Ko-fi! I’m so happy, so enjoy this double updates~~

“For the time being, let’s secure hi…m!”

On my palm, talismans appeared as I brought them out of my item box. I stuck those on the foreheads of the two people who had this stupefied expression, and their movements unnaturally stopped.

Inside this tent that was borrowed for the sake of this meeting, the two (self-proclaimed) Adventurers Guild staff started to doze off while standing.

The talismans (effect: sleep) that I just used were, of course, made by me. By the way, when I reincarnated into this different world, I’d only inherited my skills. The item box was usable but the content was empty.1 The equipment worn by my in-game avatar was also unequipped, well I was reborn as a baby… My current appearance is also different from my avatar.

That empty item box was now full with my handicrafts!!

…Ah, only money was a bit lacking there. At Gerius where we mainly barter, cash was rare in the first place.

Now, I was quite at a loss of what to do.

These people, it was certain that they were spies for the enemy country, weren’t they? Is it alright to think that they only originated from that neighbouring country and just happened to have bad personalities? I should probably go confirm it with Nadal. But even if I go there, could I even meet him again? I was but a mere peasant, it was possible to be turned away.

As I was mulling on this in front of the sleeping staff, the tent’s flap exit was opened.

"
"

“Kalya, has the talk finished… what happened?”

Led-sama who had lent the tent to us peered inside with a surprised expression. When I explained the situation, he said that he got it and nodded.

“Certainly, these baffling actions by people from Kraciel are alarming. I’ll report this to Nadal-sama. There’s an item for communication at my uncle’s place, I’ll immediately send my subordinate there right away. Kalya, can you stay here and watch over them?”

“Yes. Please do so.”

Led-sama left the tent at once and gave out an order to the soldiers and immediately after that, he returned inside. He stood beside me as he looked at the talismans curiously.

“You don’t see this item often. So it has the same effect as ‘Sleep’ magic… was this made by Kalya as well?”

“Yes, that’s right. The ball-type is reusable for several times, so it’s more common. This talisman is a one-use-only consumable product.”

“Consumable product. By the way, we collected the bows used by the Gerius Unit, but all of them were broken. Do you know why that is?”

When I heard the words of Led-sama who managed the military provisions, cold sweat started dripping down my back.

“…Actually, I made some modifications beyond the bows’ limit, so they could no longer endure. I made it while thinking it was okay as long as it could work for half a day, so after one use, they will break. Sorry.”

“As I thought, that was also Kalya.”

I really thought I would be reprimanded, but Led-sama only bitterly smiled at me like he was troubled.

“It is okay. If we could not stop those monsters, our Brattle troop would probably suffer huge losses. That modification, can you also do it on other bows? If you teach that to the weaponsmith, can the same things be produced?”

“Led-sama…?”

“I didn’t realize that you were a reincarnator. I felt that you were different from others, but who would have thought there would be a reincarnator in our fief…”

The youth reached out his hand and touched the white ribbon on my hair. His fingers moved as if he’s checking the fabric texture, but his gaze was still set on my face.

Somehow, his smile raised an alarm in my head.

NO, NO, NO, this is bad. I was totally locked on as prey. My chastity… no, that danger is also present, but I sense it might be my very own existence, that ‘I’ was targeted.

Until now, I didn’t have this much value. I have some skills, I’m literate and I could do calculations just at a level where I was a useful commoner but it wouldn’t exactly be a problem even if I was not present. That kind of existence.

Now, the expression that Led-sama had on his face reminded me of something.

In my past life, towards a client who came begging for financing beyond their ability, my boss had that smile on even with his unpretentious eyes.

That superior feeling of having the upper hand than the other party, where their fate was in your hands.

“—My uncle is truly delighted to have a reincarnator in our fief. He even said to have you serve as his vassal right away. Kalya’s ability, is it the combat-type? Or is it the crafting-type? It’s okay, I will let you live leisurely afterwards, so I’ll put in some good words for you…”

“Excuse me!”

I forcefully stopped him from trying to talk about my future.

“…I beg your pardon, Led-sama. Actually, my Gerius Unit and I just became affiliated with Nadal-sama’s troop late last night. About today, wouldn’t it be better for the Lord to discuss it with Nadal-sama?”

“————”

“Excuse me, Led-sama. We managed to contact Nadal-sama, and he gave us an order. Nadal-sama himself is coming here right now.”

The messenger soldier who entered the tent reported to us.

chocolala comments:
This was surprisingly a short chapter, but our protagonist had a sense of crisis there. Hope Led-sama won’t do anything disappointing, he was so kind, and thankfully the first noblemen our protagonist met didn’t act as a snob like any aristocrat in most novels.

jaylex comments:
Short chapter, woohoo~ (~^o^)~ Would Led-sama be those nobles who are wolves in sheep’s clothing? That would be quite disappointing if I do say so myself. He might be black-bellied, for sure.
