Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Abandoned by the Movie Star - Chapter 2
The changing room door opened, and a man in a vest suit walked inside while pulling his tie. He was surprised to see that Gu Qingchi was still lying on the couch.
“Qingchi, you still there? Not going home?”
Gu Qingchi was lying on the couch next to the locker, with his arm covering his eyes, blocking the light.
The couch was too small for a six-foot man with excellent body proportions. His long legs had to curl up on the armrest of the couch.
He was also wearing a Western-style uniform, which showed his figure. His waistline was particularly elegant, like bamboo, thin and flexible, enticing people to touch it.
It’s hard to believe that a man’s waist could tempt people like this.
His hair barely reached his ears and was spread out on the sofa, which made him look quite seductive. Even the couch looked classier since he was on it.
He heard that and moved his hand away, turned around to look at the person who just came in, and smiled.
“A bit tired, just want to lie down for a while.”
Gu Qingchi found a job as a waiter in a restaurant. The salary was good. The job was tiring though.
Before, when Gu Qingchi was the character Gu Qingchi, he lived in a villa and owned a credit card with no limit to swipe.
Now the storyline was over. Those things had been retracted. Even if they weren’t, Gu Qingchi probably wouldn’t use them anyway. Kind of a bummer.
Suitable jobs for Gu Qingchi were pretty limited. He used to be a prestigious college graduate. But in this life, he only completed high school. (One of the attributes the novel randomly assigned to him.)
The restaurant was quite famous. Wealthy people come and go, and they were big tippers. The salary plus tips could be very decent. Due to this, it was getting harder and harder to pass the interviews.
Originally the minimum requirement was a Bachelor’s degree. Gu Qingchi was not qualified as a high school graduate. He only passed the interview thanks to his fluency in English.
The colleague had taken off the vest suit and opened his locker. Gu Qingchi looked at the clock on the wall and wondered.
“It’s only 10 o’clock, time to change shift already?”
“Short notice, someone rented the restaurant for private use. Only two head waiters and the manager will stay put. I heard it was a banquet for a movie startup. The guests are quite important, and they have rented the whole place. Generous indeed.”
While the colleague was speaking, he took a piece of chocolate from his suit pocket and threw it to Gu Qingchi.
“Eat something. Guess you haven’t eaten anything this evening.”
Gu Qingchi mumbled and caught the chocolate. He snuggled on the couch, still not fully awake.
He looked at the chocolate, torn up the package with his teeth, frowned and chewed a few times, then swallowed it.
Eating crudely with that gorgeous face made him look extra charming.
The chocolate was quite expensive. It was a foreign brand with German written all over it.
It was a small gift which the restaurant prepared to give guests. If guests didn’t take them, the waiter on the current shift would take some. Sometimes head waiters would give them out to staff as well.
It was unsweetened. Every time, Gu Qingchi tried to swallow before tasting the bitterness. This time he failed again. The bitterness started to spread as soon as it melted in his mouth.
The colleague changed to his regular clothes and was about head out. He was pretty amused to see Gu Qingchi swallowed it that fast.
“I forgot, you aren’t a fan of that flavor. But you still eat it every time I give it to you, despite being so afraid of bitterness.”
Gu Qingchi closed his eyes, looking very tired. His sleepy voice sounded quite enticing. The way he looked at someone with downcast eyes was quite alluring. Every word he said sounded like it came from the tip of his tongue.
“Because you gave it to me.”
The colleague, a tall young man with a crew out, looked tough and handsome. Yet, his ears slowly turned red when he heard that.
Although, he knew very well. Gu Qingchi did not mean anything else.
He treated everyone like that. He was not his special someone.
Just like that. It seemed like Gu Qingchi was born that way, tricking you into feeling like he cherished you a lot.
Even so, the young man still whispered with red ears.
“Next time, I will bring you the sweet kind.”
Then he gently closed the door.
Not sure if Gu Qingchi heard it or not. He had fallen asleep.
By the time he woke up, it was eleven o’clock.
It was time to go back, but in fact, Gu Qingchi was not in a rush. The house he rented wasn’t far from here. It only took seven or eight minutes walking.
Since he was still in uniform, he slowly stood up and started to change. The tie was loosened and casually placed around the owner’s neck. When the shirt was halfway taken off and exposed half of his back, someone suddenly opened the door.
Gu Qingchi heard the sound and looked back.
The person at the door was holding a cigarette between his lips, and the smoke was hovering over him. The colleague had thoughtfully turned off the light close to the door.
So now, it was as if Gu Qingchi was standing under the spotlight in the eyes of the person at the door. He could see every bit of him, but to Gu Qingchi, he could only see a blurred figure.
Ordinary people would freak out if they were suddenly exposed in front of a stranger. But Gu Qingchi turned a blind eye.
He leisurely tilted his head, not bothered at all.
“Can I help you?”
When this guy barged in by mistake, Gu Qingchi stopped changing already.
Now half of his back and shoulder were still exposed under the light; they were dazzling white. There were tight and well-shaped muscles around the waist area, not too sturdy.
Every part of his body existed for the sake of sampling.
At this moment, Gu Qingchi casually looked over here. His hair tangled around his neck, which seemed rather curvy. He looked like a siren under the sea who could devour people.
This scene hit Xie Luyu right in the eyes. The cigarette in his mouth dropped onto the floor.
The head waiter came out. Seeing Xie Luyu standing in front of the staff changing room, he quickly paced over there.
“Mr. Xie, I’m so sorry that I’m just coming out to lead the way. The smoking room is at next-door. This is our staff changing room.”
Xie Luyu seemed to have just come back to his senses. He slammed the door before the head waiter got to see anything inside.
He picked up the cigarette butt, which just dropped on the floor, with a bit of embarrassment.
“My apologies, I opened the wrong door. Please say sorry to him on my behalf. ”
The head waiter gave him a weird look, watching him return to the dining room.
“Strange, he came out to smoke, yet he decided not to go.”
Gu Qingchi just finished changing and went out.
The head waiter was used to this. Gu Qingchi often slept in there. Sometimes he dozed off without eating dinner. Xie Luyu probably saw him in there.
“Did you doze off in there again? Hold on one sec. I will get you some food to take back home. No place to eat anyway since it’s already midnight.”
Gu Qingchi didn’t decline.
“Sure, give me a bottle of wine, deduct it from my salary.”
The restaurant wouldn’t leave food overnight. The staff could take extra food back home, except for wine.
The head waiter patted him on the shoulder.
“You wish. I’ll take what I can find. Don’t even think about drinking at midnight. It’s bad for your stomach.”
Then he went to the kitchen in the back.
Gu Qingchi was waiting for him in front of the changing room. He looked out outside the window. There was an advertisement playing on the wall of the building across the street.
Xie Luyu was the spokesperson for that luxury apparel brand.
The brand was quite picky about its spokesperson and hasn’t decided on anyone in China. However, just the other day, the company signed a three-year contract with Xie Luyu. And this news was trending on Weibo for days. (Chinese social media)
These days people around him kept talking about it. Even Gu Qingchi, who was not keen on showbiz info, heard about this as well.
A 27-year old award-winning movie star would be in high demand, no doubt.
Only the Golden Cup winner could be called “movie star.” It wasn’t for just anyone.
Xie Luyu just won it this year. His popularity and rank were increasing—no wonder those high-end brands would chase after him.
This world was somehow similar yet a bit different from the world which Gu Qingchi was originally from. The film industry was booming, and showbiz was thriving as well.
While the industry was developing ahead of its time, there were a set of international standards for evaluating actors and film productions, which were very authoritative. Evaluation of actors and their work would be judged separately.
Only the best actor will be awarded the Golden cup.
The Golden cup was the industry benchmark despite its cheesy name.
Only those who had a certain number of outstanding works were eligible to compete for the Golden Cup every three years. This award was only offered to professionals who devoted themselves to work for ages. There were only three winners in China after so many years. And the youngest winner was 37.
Xie Luyu was indeed a genius in acting.
Xie Luyu’s heart was beating so fast. His head was filled with the scene he just witnessed. That guy’s body didn’t reveal much, but it impacted him deeply. The influence was so huge. It gave him a similar feeling, sort of like seeing his school crush for the first time.
The remaining scent of the cigarette between his fingertips calmed him down.
Director Chen turned around and saw Xie Luyu. He was tipsy since he was so happy to start shooting the movie he prepared for so long.
He greeted Xie Luyu joyously.
“Come, let’s have a drink.”
Screenwriters sitting around Director Chen happily made room for Xie Luyu to sit.
Xie Luyu sat next to him.
“Sister-in-law1 will scold me if you drink some more.”
Xie Luyu already knew Director Chen when he just debuted. At that time, he was an arrogant, bad-tempered young man who knew nothing but acting. Director Chen taught him everything he needed to know as an actor in this industry.
He was not only a mentor but a dear friend to him. They talked casually with each other.
Director Chen patted his thigh.
“Well, you’re here with me. Every time I come out with you. My wife had no objection. Your sister-in-law only trusts you. It’s weird.”
“This is my charisma. You certainly don’t understand.”
Director Chen was speechless.
“How can you survive till this day with your bad temper?”
Xie Luyu was somewhat confident.
“Like what they said on the internet, my looks. You picked me to act for my looks, as well.”
Director Chen looked at his face and couldn’t refute him.
So many people in this industry don’t want audiences to focus on their looks solely. You actually preferred that way.”
“Why bother? I never intend to change that.”
Director Chen thought so as well. This guy was born to enter showbiz. Now looking back, every role he played was classic since the day he debuted as an actor.
Before he held Xie Luyu’s hand to talk about the good old days, he heard Xie Luyu said.
“I always look this good, all-natural, right?”
Director Chen shut his mouth. Xie Luyu was a playful drunk. That he hadn’t been beaten to death by people, for his arrogance and bad temper till now, was because he was so talented.
Director Chen was almost 50, yet he was still a trendsetter who kept abreast with the changing era. Nevertheless, as a middle-aged man, he especially likes to lecture people with something like that.
“You know, someone might be more handsome than you.”
He was about to persuade Xie Luyu to be more modest and focus more on his acting. Yet he realized that this guy in front of him just won the Golden Cup. He changed his tactics and said,
“Handsome guys are many. No flower can bloom for a hundred days. Girls tend to like younger men nowadays. You’re popular for now. What will you do years later?”
Director Chen was so hammered and out of his mind. He sincerely started to worry about the future of this brand-new movie star.
The leading actress sitting next to him almost spat out her food.
Xie Luyu nodded, thinking about the man in the changing room just now. Surprisingly, he didn’t talk back when he heard Director Chen and said, “Someone might be more handsome than me.”
“He did look quite young.”
With a look like that, once he entered the entertainment industry, even if he had no talent, he could still become a top idol without a problem.
Xie Luyu considered himself knowledgeable since he witnessed a majority of good-looking people entering showbiz. How could they compare after meeting someone like that?
There was a gem out there.
