The Singing Voice of the Dragon Echoes in the Sky, Vol.1

Chapter 5.5 – The Siphons

Feiwan was reading a large amount of documents in the office. On top of the desk were letters from various countries and reports from all over the country that kept piling up no matter how much he read. Due to his body’s current condition, he had not appeared in public for nearly two years now since it would only bring uncertainty to the people. Ryusei finally appeared and he was able to obtain spirit energy to a certain degree. As a result, now that he finally had more control of his body, he could now work in his office like this. As a king, his duties were numerous. As of now, his ministers assisted him with most of it, however he was doing as much as he possibly could. He sighed heavily as he signed a document.

“Your majesty, please don’t over do it. If you push yourself when you’re not feeling well…-”

“I’m alright. I just want to take a breather. I am not tired yet.”

Feiwan smiled at the worried minister. Nevertheless, the minister’s anxious look remained.

“Don’t you think it’s time to have Ryusei-sama visit?”

After Raoshan’s kidnapping case, Feiwan secretly went to visit Ryusei. Then, he had confessed all of his feelings, he thought it went well and was satisfied with that. He wasn’t privy to Ryusei’s thoughts, but afterwards, he refused the visit with the king for the reason that he was ill. Feiwan’s words might have caused him difficulties. He received a letter of apology from Ryusei. The letter, with its unfamiliar characters, was written with utmost effort, representing Ryusei’s sincerity.

He didn’t seem to be hated. But he knew that Ryusei was still conflicted.

“No, I’m alright. I’m alright so don’t do anything that will make Ryusei feel rushed, you understand?”

Feiwan reminded the minister. The minister bowed his head in assent.

He understood everyone’s worry. With the little spirit energy he received, he was finally reclaiming his body, however this didn’t mean that they could be relieved. His body hadn’t completely recovered nor would it continue to do so… The doctor also mentioned that his body wouldn’t be able to take it if it was to degenerate repeatedly. As long as Ryusei was here, he should receive spirit energy and restore his body as soon as possible, otherwise he might forfeit his life anyway.

I love Ryusei — love him with all my heart, but I didn’t feel that way before Ryusei appeared.

I even thought it detestable. If he had appeared when he was supposed to, perhaps I would have loved him obediently. However, time passed and Ryusei still had not appeared. My flesh gradually began to degenerate, my body shrunk, and eventually became weak that I couldn’t even walk. When I started to feel a certain death approaching, I began to hate Ryusei who had not yet appeared. Consequently, when Ryusei finally appeared, instead of feeling joy for the arrival of the long-awaited lover, all I felt was relief for the appearance of the source of life.

For Feiwan, at that time, Ryusei had only become ‘Prey who’ll give spirit energy’.

However, it is different now.

I love Ryusei. Not because I’m enraptured by his scent as Ryusei. Ryusei is as I have always imagined him to be. He is a beautiful person both in appearance and inside.

Whenever I think of him, my heart warms with love. When I think of Ryusei, my heart feels at ease. I feel the joy of loving someone. When I see Ryusei who’s confused and discouraged for not understanding what he is supposed to be, I feel sorry for him. I even started to think that if Ryusei says that he doesn’t want to no matter what, I won’t mind if I just stay as it is and not do anything. Even if I will lose my life because of it…

Feiwan stood up, crossed the room slowly heading towards the window and stared at his reflection for a while.

A young figure.

A youth who seemed unable to become an adult.

Feiwan smiled. He wouldn’t think this figure of his shameful anymore. If it was how he should be as his destiny then it couldn’t be helped. He turned his gaze towards the other side of his reflected self. He could see dragons flying in the sky. In the olden days, not just this country’s sky, but the Siphon’s dragons flourished that they filled the sky of the world. Now, they can only be seen flying sparsely in the sky. Feiwan’s golden dragon hadn’t spread its wings for so long. The dragon king had lost its power and was affecting the other dragons. At this rate, the dragons would return to the cruel creatures of the past, would eventually begin cannibalism and become extinct. Perhaps the reason why that straight-laced Raoshan had ambitions was because he was influenced by that. Over time, not just Raushan but perhaps the other dragons would go mad. Although he thought he would have to regain the power of the dragon king as soon as possible, he didn’t want to force his beloved Ryusei. His heart trembled with these two wishes.

Feiwan slowly opened the window. A cool breeze rushed in. Feiwan’s rich, vibrant red hair fluttered in the wind.

Does this mean that dragons were no longer needed in this sky?

He thought as he lifted his head up toward the expanse of blue sky above his head.

He closed his eyes and slowly sighed heavily.

“Ryusei.”

He exclaimed with all his feelings of love.

Then, there was a howl-like cry of a beast from somewhere. That was the cry of the dragon king, Jinyon. It was a grief stricken cry. After a while, as if in response to it, cries from all around resonated.

Dragons’ cries echoed in the sky of Elman kingdom.

“Shurei, what is that? It sounds like the cry of beasts… high-pitched, low-pitched cries…. Wow, there are so many of them.” Ryusei was reading a book but he stood up unconsciously and listened.

“That’s the cry of dragons. It’s rare.” Shurei also seemed surprised.

“Did something happen?”

“I do not know. But it sounds a little different from the cry I heard before.”

As Ryuusei listened to Shurei’s words, he stared at the distant window and put his hand on his chest.

“Somehow… it sounds very sad. I don’t know why but my chest hurts.”

Ryuusei grabbed the clothes across his chest hard as he muttered quietly.

_______________

Sorry for the change in perspective narrative. I couldn’t keep up the 3rdPOV in this chapter.

I forgot if I ever mentioned that this novel actually seem to be in 1st perspective narrative but I’ve been trying to fix it in 3rd because it gave me a headache from the first paragraph of this novel. It read like 1st Pov but the next sentence the narrator was referring to himself in the 3rd person. There is a tendency among the Japanese people especially young women to refer to themselves in the 3rd person and I don’t know if that’s the case here or just my inexperience.

Anyways, this chapter is quite long and lots of scene so I’m cutting as it’s divided in the chapter so sometimes it’s 2000words or 1000 like this part.

There are some 30 pages more left for this chapter.

Sorry for being unable to post once a week the past few months. I keep pushing myself in a corner but there’ s been a lot of opportunities the past couple of years that were hard to pass up.

I wasn’t planning to move from my current apartment until I get the result of at least one of the two big applications I did this year but something came up and I decided to move ahead of schedule so The next release will be after I finish moving.

Thank you for reading~ ^-^
