Chapter 5.3 – The Siphons
As Feiwan had said, the day after he paid the secret visit, Ryuusei was told to go to Feiwan. He went through the same preparation steps from the previous visits, then left the room accompanied by Shurei and the soldiers. Shurei seemed a little concerned by Ryusei’s silence. Ryuusei had been contemplating Feiwan’s words from the night before.
“As if you’re giving me fodder, don’t come to me just to give me spirit energy.”
Feiwan’s words echoed incessantly inside Ryuusei’s head. They weighed heavily on his mind. They were very heavy words. Ryuusei had never once thought about that ‘issue’. For the ‘present’ Ryuusei, to give the king ‘spirit energy’ was established as his sole task. Therefore, as such, ‘giving fodder’ was something he had never thought about. He was told that the present king needed ‘spirit energy’, so he only followed his duty. Ever since he became aware of that issue, he was baffled once again.
Ryuusei thought of it as ‘duty’. That was the very thing Feiwan’s words, ‘Don’t come just to give me spirit energy’, meant. Once again, Feiwan’s words… feelings… weighed heavily on his heart. Even if he was to tell him not to come with that kind of feeling, Ryuusei didn’t feel anything more than that yet. Telling him ‘I don’t think it’s fodder’ was just equivocating.
He had not yet developed the sort of feelings towards him that could answer to what Feiwan was feeling. No matter what excuses he used, he still couldn’t comply with his wishes. He didn’t hate him, in fact, he liked him. He liked him as a person and admired him as an attractive man. He was also worthy of respect as a king. Were those not enough? Ryuusei felt his heart clenched so he grabbed his chest and shut his eyes. Seeing that Ryuusei had stopped, the soldiers also halted in their tracks.
“Is something the matter?” Shurei asked anxiously.
“I am sorry. I don’t feel well so… I don’t think I can go.”
Seeing Ryuusei who answered with a distressed look, Shurei hastily ordered the soldiers to escort Ryuusei back to his room.
He was put to bed and the doctor was called. Ryuusei became anxious when he didn’t see Shurei. After a while, Shurei returned and stood right next to the bed staring at the doctor, who was examining Ryuusei’s body, with a worried expression on his face.
“He seems to be a little exhausted, also sleep deprived, perhaps due to cumulative psychological stress. It’s better to take a break from visiting His Majesty and his studies as ryusei.”
Shurei breathed a sigh of relief at the doctor’s words. Ryuusei closed his eyes and thought ‘I don’t want to think about anything right now.’ He apparently feigned illness. But now, with his current feelings, he couldn’t go to the king. After hearing the king’s earnest feelings, he became ashamed of his indecisiveness. Somewhere in his heart, he naively thought that if he just continued to give ‘spirit energy’ as he was asked, then he would be safe for the time. He even started to believe that it wouldn’t be a big deal if it was only a kiss. It felt good and it wasn’t as if it could hurt him. If they would be satisfied with it… If he would be saved by that… And if his family would be saved by it.. A kiss was a small matter. He certainly thought so. But for Feiwan, it was a very sacred ritual and his kiss with Ryuusei was filled with love.
“Are you alright?”
His eyes opened when he heard Shurei’s voice. Shurei sat beside the bed and gazed at him with a worried look. It was extremely reassuring to have Shurei after all. For the past few days, their relationship had been strained, but seeing the concerned look on his face made Ryuusei happy.
Right now, in this country, the only person who genuinely cared for Ryuusei was Shurei.
“Of course Feiwan too, but…”
But now, Ryuusei thought, the issue that he had been worrying about … those words that Feiwan had said to him during his visit, he couldn’t share those things with Shurei. But, would it alleviate his worries if he asked someone for advice?
However, he felt it was unfair to ask Shurei this. Shurei whom Feiwan had confessed he was jealous of.
Because he was a man, he obviously understood a man’s heart. It would probably be unbearable for one’s feelings to be exposed in front of one’s love rival, directly from the object of affection’s mouth.
For Feiwan, Ryuusei’s position would be ‘the object of affection’ and Shurei would probably be the ‘rival’. In truth, this formula was not effective, but as long as Feiwan would think so, then it would be.
“I’m sorry, I had a lot on my mind and couldn’t sleep last night…” Ryuusei explained to the worried Shurei.
“I am sorry. That’s because I said such things.”
“I was not myself that time. Ryusei-sama got kidnapped, I was upset… and became emotional regarding nonsensical things.
I thought, if possible, it would be better not to tell you the things you didn’t need to know immediately …I became emotional when you were too impatient to know. I apologize.”
Shurei said with an agonized expression. He couldn’t help but forgive him when he saw Shurei’s expression.
He was still wanted to know everything. When he questioned Feiwen, he was made aware of some things. But he had a feeling that Shurei was hiding a lot more.
“Are you going to keep hiding it from me forever?”
Ryuusei said impulsively.
He had no intention of blaming Shurei. However, if it was meant to be disclosed sooner or later … If it was something that would have to be told eventually, then he wanted it to be clear.
“Not forever. The truth is I don’t want to hide things from you… But you came to this world without knowing anything, and it looked like you weren’t even prepared for it. I just thought that you should be taught under some order. Even if I were to tell you everything right now, I don’t think you would be able to take everything in. Even now, you are still not fully convinced about giving ‘spirit energy’. You still haven’t fully accepted being the consort to the king, have you?” Shurei asked as he stared unblinkingly at Ryuusei.
Ryuusei was unable to refute him, he couldn’t say anything in response as words became lodged in his throat.
Looking at Ryuusei, who had become like so, Shurei continued.
“I thought I shouldn’t teach you everything about this country … And everything about ryusei to all at once like that …But because of this, I made you feel anxious …Perhaps I was wrong. But more than anyone, I want you to understand that I did all that for Ryusei-sama’s sake… I just hope you can have faith in my loyalty.”
Ryuusei closed his eyes. Shurei’s honest heart was heart-rending.
“Shurei, I’m sorry.” Ryuusei muttered softly.
“Because of me, you are hurt…and suffering… I’m sorry.”
“Ryusei-sama!” Shurei’s eyes widened in surprise.
It was just as what Shurei had said. Ryuusei had not embraced anything…not one thing. It was all pretend. It had always been like that, hadn’t it? So he thought.
Ryuusei had always lived without risks, with open-mindedness and a positive attitude. However, it was actually just yielding without a fight, while remaining detached to everything.
Ever since he could remember, his life had always been on the verge of poverty. He gave up his dreams and wishes after he lost his father in an accident. Being ‘Kind to everyone, cheerful and sociable,’ was actually just his outward appearance. He didn’t like troublesome relationships, and behaved in a way to be liked by others. His interactions with others were with cautions, he even pretended to be understanding to avoid offending people. It seemed like that personality had now backfired on him. He had never been involved with people like Shurei who pledged loyalty vehemently to Ryuusei with. He had never been involved with people like Feiwan, who would look at him with love gushing from his eyes.
Therefore, he concluded that he couldn’t interact with them using this pretentious facade.
Let’s start over… He thought.
Ryuusei propped himself up on the bed. Shurei anxiously supported his body.
“I said I’ll be consort, didn’t I…? Since I couldn’t go back to my original world, I thought I had made up my mind… But the truth is I haven’t internally been prepared at all. There are a lot of things I don’t know. And it makes me anxious, so I wanted to know about them. But if I really didn’t have the determination, then everything would be pointless, wouldn’t it?
I’m sorry, Shurei, even though Shurei is always thoughtful and considerate of me.” As Ryuusei looked smilingly at Shurei, Shurei continued to look down without saying a word.
“I won’t rush anymore. I think I’ll slowly get to know everyone. I will listen to Shurei’s words, get to know Feiwan…Getting to know this world wholeheartedly and become a real ryusei. I will be a citizen of Elman kingdom.”
Ryuusei took Shurei’s hands and squeezed it.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door so Shurei left Ryuusei to get to the door. After a while, Shurei returned with his arms overflowed with a gigantic bouquet of flowers.
“A present¹ from the king.”
“From Feiwan?” Ryuusei was surprised. Shurei placed the bouquet down beside the bed.
“There is a note.” Shurei dug up the letter buried in the bouquet and handed it to Ryuusei.
When he opened the letter, there were neatly written words addressed to Ryuusei. But, he couldn’t read very well yet.
“Shall I read it for you?”
Ryuusei shook his head at Shurei’s offer.
“Shurei, can you bring me a dictionary? I want to try and read it myself.”
Shurei nodded at Ryuusei’s words and went to get a dictionary. Upon receiving the dictionary Shurei bought back, Ryuusei began to translate the letter.
“Ryusei-sama, I’m going to arrange these flowers, alright?”
Shurei said and left with the flowers.
The letter from Feiwan wasn’t too long. Maybe he was careful with his words and didn’t write so much so that it would be easy for Ryuusei to read.
I am worried when I heard you weren’t feeling well. If you are concerned and hurt because of the words I said, I am sorry. I hope you get better soon.
“Feiwan.” Ryuusei whispered that name after he was done reading.
What a very straightforward person. Ryuusei thought and smiled. He decided that the next time he went to him, it wouldn’t be “to give fodder” but ‘to meet him’. He wasn’t certain if this feeling he had was love yet, so he couldn’t reciprocate the feelings. However, he could go meet him when he wanted to. Not because of duty but because he really wanted to see Feiwan… let’s go meet him whenever I feel like it.
“Shurei, I want to write a reply to Feiwan’s letter. Can you bring me some tools?” Ryuusei asked Shurei who brought the bouquet he had arranged in a vase to the room.
Shurei smiled, “Certainly.” he said nodding his head.

Lynn: Hello readers!! I’m sorry for the long wait. RL was not fun. Hopefully we can keep it consistent. <3
Dhetz: Hi! Sorry for the long wait. Too many things going on in RL. It prolly won’t settle down for many more months to come but I got some breathing room now that I’ve passed the first hurdle in my citizenship application and I only have one last test to pass for my driving license. Work is hectic as always and it looks like I can’t avoid getting more responsibilities but I’m the type to work hard so I can slack so It’ll prolly settle down after a transition period.
As Lynn said, I hope we can release with consistency so I’ve decided to stop taking new manga projects after I finish my current one so I can concentrate on this. Next release we’ll meet a new character~ please stay tuned~ ^-^
