- 1.1 - Rosa Wants a Candidate (Part 1)
I translated these teasers before realizing this was a reverse harem novel, which isn’t exactly my cup of tea, so if anyone is interested in picking this one up, please do! It’s a cute novel and Rosa is so great in a cringy way, I love her.
Even Rosa didn’t know when or how she became like this. But ever since she could remember, she was already this way.
In other words—
Ohh goodness, seriously, I wonder why the love between male friends makes my heart squeeze like this?
Her tastes and interests in the field of love had become corrupted.
When she read “Snow White”, thinking about the drama that unfolds in private between the seven dwarves, the throbbing in her chest wouldn’t stop.
When she read the Bible, she became more excited about the ties and rivalry between God and The Devil, rather than the love between the hero and princess.
It didn’t take long for that corrupt gaze to turn onto the real world.
During childhood, her mother had died prematurely, and her father neglected her. Within Langheim, she was viewed as just the potentate, so she had no close companions, and women were kept at a distance because of her father’s erotomania. People looked up to her as the girl who’s admirable smile would never die, but in reality it was different. Rosa stayed indoors, avoiding the troubles of socializing, and filtered everything through her corrupt lense to her heart’s content.
For example, what if the gardener’s unintentional gaze towards the butler had been made of jealousy, or what if the hand of the master chef that had casually pat the subordinate was filled with tender emotions that could not be contained…?
Just thinking about the bonds, the intense feelings that went beyond friendship, and the profound agonies that came with it, and the world was truly colorful and glimmering. Rosa simply adored such sights with a slight giggle from behind the scenes; to her, the love between men was rather like a beautiful rose.
Prismatic, without impurity or decadence. Passionate, irresistibly charming to the eye, a full-blooming fragrance. A single, pagan rose in a garden of gentle flowers in pastel colors.
Someday, this rose would expand into a garden beyond this one to the entire world.
And so, she made the decision at the fragile age of five.
One day, when she was six years old, she defined the concepts of “seme” and “uke” for her upcoming rose religion. In the summer when she was seven, the idea of representing the uke-seme relationship with the “x” symbol suddenly came to her. In the winter when she was eight, taking a hint from noble rot wine, she gave herself the title of “Lady Rotten”. And in Autumn when she was nine, at her father’s library she perused his adult literature for “research” and got so feverish she fainted.
Rosa was steadily pursuing the path of corruption, but for better or worse, there was someone that just barely kept her from crossing social lines.
That someone was Anton, the uncle from her mother’s side.
Contrary to Rosa, he adored the love between women above all else, and at every opportunity would speak about the wholesomeness of it, shout about it even. Because he was dripping with one-sided delusions, his environment scorned him. Coincidentally, the coat of arms that decorated his home was a lily, and for the fact that he had a plump body, he was bullied greatly by society as the “Lily Pig”.
In the end, they insisted the novel he’d written that had obscene content was modeled after two noblewomen from somewhere in the country, and he was exiled forever from high society after a battle duel. To even mention his name became a taboo, and to top it off, anyone else who they thought were affiliated with love between women and the like were completely rejected by society.
Farewell Anton, thanks for everything.
When Rosa heard the chain of events, she learned what can happen. Whether it be lilies or roses, love between the same sexes would not be universalized any time soon. If anything was to take root, it would need time. And in order to make that happen, the founder (Rosa) must not be a heretic, and especially must not be unattractive or have any attributes that would beg for ridicule.
Better yet would be for her surroundings to acknowledge and praise her for the rose garden expansion plan and reach the top of the pedestal. Therefore, Rosa took the opportunity to make an effort improving herself.
