Hi…..Part 1 has actually be done for a while….but I intended to release all parts when I finished translating them. Ummm….not really much of an excuse but there were school and life and projects I had to do, so I apologize for the extreme delay. Hope you enjoy this as a Valentine’s day treat! Other parts will be released after my exams on Monday.
Half a month soon flew by as Li Jinzhi cultivated and ate his meals. Before he knew it, the size of the spiritual ice Qi collected within his body was already the size of an infant’s fist. He was approaching the second level of the Qi Refining stage.
Meanwhile, Ye Yu was more diligent than expected in his cultivation. Aside from the daily three meals, he was always sitting in that lotus position.
When Li Jinzhi inquired about how his cultivation was going, he only received silence in reply. As he looked at Ye Yu who was becoming more and more good-looking, Li Jinzhi’s heart dropped.
He didn’t want to see Ye Yu’s efforts be meaningless, if they had a magic tool that could test his spiritual root then…..
Just as this thought emerged, Li Jinzhi abruptly remembered that there seemed to be a spiritual root measuring plate in the Li Family Castle’s medicinal pill pavilion. Any child that has become one year old would use that measuring plate to examine their spiritual root(s).
“C’mon, come with me to the pill pavilion!” Jumping to his feet, he pulled Ye Yu out the door. After turning left and going right and around for an hour, in the end changing into Ye Yu leading the way, they crossed the bridge across the ice and finally reached the pill pavilion.
This pavilion was on the edge of the family grounds, leaning against the ice wall. In this way, one could see how important this pavilion was to the Li Family Castle. And there was a towering ice tree planted in front of the pavilion!
This tree was similar to ice but not, similar to wood but not. Its leaves sparkled and were translucent; its beauty was unparalleled. It was a flourishing scene.
But Li Jinzhi didn’t look at the top of the ice tree; instead, his gaze was fixed on its roots, where there was a decorative flower bed bordered by countless black pebbles……
“What’s wrong?” Ye Yu looked at the Li Jinzhi who had fallen behind, following his line of vision to that flower bed.
Li Jinzhi didn’t reply. Instead, he walked to the flower bed and began rummaging through the stones. He remembered that the story seemed to have mentioned this flower bed before……
A few days before he left his house, Li Jinzhi (ML) had gone to the medicinal pill pavilion to get medicinal pills. He also found a phoenix jade pendant in the flower bed under the ice tree. Seeing that it had an odd shape, he gave it as a present to the Ye Die’er who he later became acquainted with.
This jade pendant could be considered as the one of the mysteries that the author had left behind. Readers knew that it wasn’t something to overlook, but it was never mentioned how it was extraordinary. Just from how fast Ye Die’er who wore that jade pendant progressed in “her” cultivation, it could clearly be seen that it was extraordinary somehow.
Li Jinzhi had a feeling that there was more to this jade pendant, he must find out what.
Ye Yu stood behind Li Jinzhi. Seeing him bend down and rummage through trying to find something, his brow unconsciously furrowed, Ye Yu quietly waited at the side and didn’t say anything to disturb him.
Just looking at the thick roots of this towering ice tree, it would take five or six adults embracing it together to know how big the flower bed was. It really wasn’t easy to find a phoenix-shaped stone among the dense black pebbles.
An hour later, Li Jinzhi ended up just climbing up the rock bed to look for the jade pendant in its depths.
“What are you looking for? Do you need my assistance?” Ye Yu finally couldn’t resist asking when he saw the other’s actions.
Li Jinzhi scrabbled through the pebbles, not even looking back as he told him, “Go in first and borrow a spiritual measuring plate, just say that I requested it.”
Ye Yu glanced at him, then went past the rock bed into the medicinal pill pavilion. When he came back out, Li Jinzhi was sitting on the flower bed with his back against him, looking down at something.
When he got closer, the object in his hands was revealed. It was a black stone that could be faintly made out to be phoenix-shaped. The carving work was rough, only using a few lines to outline it. Not to mention that it was covered in frozen soil, making it seem more rough.
“……” At this time, Li Jinzhi noticed that Ye Yu came out. He twitched the corner of his mouth while he kneaded the black stone in his hand, indifferently notifying the latter, “Let’s go.”
Ye Yu followed the other up the bridge and tried to sound him out, “Do you like this kind of rock?”
“……” Li Jinzhi’s footsteps paused, he awkwardly scratched his head, “Yeah, it’s very clear and it can emit light too.” Saying so, to validate his own words, he raised the black stone against the sun. The light that passed through the stone actually had red lines faintly circulating.
“It……looks quite nice.” Ye Yu watched the teen whose eyes were gleaming, his mouth twitching as he silently remembered that the other party liked this kind of thing, stones that are clear and emit light.
Li Jinzhi glanced at the black stone, pursing his lips. What kind of mentality did this guy use to say such contradictory words? Also, what happened to the “unique exterior”? Male lead, were your beauty standards eaten by the villain?!
Look at this simple and unadorned outer appearance and jet-black frozen dirt, which made this piece of phoenix jade stone appear no different from a stone. It’s quite admirable that Ye Die’er didn’t turn up “her” nose at it, even wearing it daily around “her” neck.
After they returned to the room, Li Jinzhi carelessly tossed the black stone in his hand into the foot basin. He turned around and took the spirit measuring plate from Ye Yu. It was a pitch-black magic plate. The upper and lower ends were pitch-black, and there was a block of clear jade and stone pieced together in the middle.
Li Jinzhi, who already knew how to use it, gestured with one hand towards the plate. Spiritual Qi flowed through the energy channels and finally poured out the palm, acting upon the spiritual measuring plate.
“Hurry and put your hand on this, circulate the magical gestures and feel the spiritual Qi around you!” He raised his head and urged.
Ye Yu didn’t hesitate, he immediately closed his eyes and placed his hand on the plate.
The spiritual measuring plate had no reaction. After quietly waiting for a while, until Li Jinzhi was getting uneasy, a sudden dazzling beam of white light burst from the clear jade. Within it were faint red lines that were fervently intertwining!
But this ray of light disappeared very quickly. Even Ye Yu, who opened his eyes in time, could only catch a trace of white light that soon disappeared.
“……” Li Jinzhi furrowed his brows. What were those red lines?
If it was a double spiritual root, then the spiritual measuring plate should have a pair of rays that were half-and-half in two colors. There was just one color earlier, with red lines that were struggling. It was clearly a living animal.
Like a tiny——snake.
“Try again.” Ye Yu said calmly, the wrinkle of his brow deepening.
Unfortunately, no matter how many times they tried, the white light never appeared again.
“There’s no need to try anymore.” Ye Yu sat down on the chair with his head hanging down, his voice dejected, “I don’t have a spiritual root. This fact won’t change no matter how many more times we test it, and it’s a waste of your spiritual power.”
Li Jinzhi didn’t say anything. He furrowed his brow as he placed the spiritual measuring board on the table, but he remembered something regarding the foreshadowing that the author had written.
[The male lead Li Jinzhi only entered the Dao at the end of the month. During the celestial sect primary evaluation, something strange occured with the spiritual measuring board. A bright light quickly flashed, like a firework. The celestial sect disciples were bewildered but didn’t investigate further. They only thought that the spiritual examining board was broken. When they tested him again, nothing happened. It was suspected that he did not have any spiritual roots.
Yet the male lead had succeeded in entering the Dao. They were befuddled by this result and could only take the male lead with them back to the celestial sect——]
But now this kind of situation has occurred, and it’s occurred to Ye Yu instead. Don’t tell him that something that should have happened to him was substituted by Ye Yu? Could it be that it was medication that suppressed the spiritual root and……
“……” Li Jinzhi lowered his eyes, his brow tightly furrowed as he stared at the spiritual measuring plate. After a while, he choked out, “I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault that I don’t have a spiritual root.” Ye Yu said in a low voice, extremely disappointed. He wasn’t disappointed that he had no hope of becoming a celestial being, he was disappointed that he wasn’t able to stay by the other’s side for a long time. “When I’m old, maybe you’ll appear just as young as you are now.”
“You do have a spiritual root though.” When Li Jinzhi heard the other’s words, he felt very depressed, “It’s my fault. I was thoughtless and didn’t think things through. I’m afraid that when Di Mother had sent that bowl of soup that day, she had put a medicine to suppress one’s spiritual roots in it. This wouldn’t be the first time that she’s done this kind of thing. Hah, don’t worry. There won’t be a next time.” No matter how he thought about it, he could only suspect that bowl of medicine that should have gone into his stomach but which he fed to Ye Yu instead.
Ye Yu raised his head abruptly, his eyes brightening as his hands tightly clutched onto Li Jinzhi’s sleeve, “That means that I—I can cultivate too. I won’t die early. I won’t……” He started choking up, and couldn’t go on.
“None of that will happen, however…..” Li Jinzhi paused, then closed his eyes as he sighed, “I’m afraid that you won’t be able to make it to the celestial sect primary evaluations next month. I wonder if I could take a young attendant with me.”
“That’s alright, there’s always a way.” Ye Yu grinned like a fool.
One month later, the Li Family Castle’s living room was lively with the sound of voices. The main family and branch families gathered together in the room, waiting for the celestial sect disciples.
“Zongyin, your family’s oldest child is going to be in the limelight today. It’s rare to see a double spiritual root constitution.” A middle-aged man with a square face and honest features sat on the main seat. This was the Li family castle’s family head, Li Jinzhi’s cousin uncle, Li Zongmu.
“No, no. The family head’s Di child is the real outstanding one. To be a double spiritual root constitution as well and already reach the third level of the Qi-refining stage, he’s truly not average.” Li Zongyin replied cheerfully. Though he was praising others, it was not hard to hear the pride in his tone.
Li Jinzhi silently stood behind Li Zongyin like an invisible person. He turned a deaf ear to the mutual flattery that was being exchanged by others, his mind pondering over another matter instead.
Ye Yu would not come. As soon as he heard that the people from the main house would come over to the choosing grounds, he flatly refused to come.
As Li Jinzhi recalled how the other party had hugged the pillar and refused to let go, he felt like his head hurt.
Could it be, something happened between Ye Yu and the people of the main house? He swept his eyes across the people from the main house present——
The Li family head, the family head’s wife, the family head’s favored concubine, his Di child, Di younger child, and his Shu child.
Who could it be?
