This kind of homicide case was still quite horrific back then, so people still talked about it to this day. On the night when Yu Zhi Le pieced together the whole story, she was lying on the sofa and could not sleep for a long time. But in the darkness, the beauty whose smile was sweeter than a flower on the wall opposite of her seemed to be watching her.
How could anyone bear to hurt someone with such a gentle smile?
If Yu Zhi Le had such a beautiful friend by her side, she would be too protective of her to say any harsh words to her at all, let alone let anyone bully her.
It was probably around that time that Yu Zhi Le faced the portraits of Yu Zi Huan’s mother and grandmother, and vowed to these two ill-fated women in her heart that as long as she was around, she would protect Yu Zi Huan and let him successfully grow up.
In the past few days, Yu Zhi Le kept thinking about this matter, she seriously suspected that the reason why Xie Cheng Long hated Yu Zi Huan had a lot to do with his mother. Xie Cheng Long’s physique was inherited from his mother; a wide shoulder, round waist, tall and sturdy and a large stature. It would be fine if it was a man’s physique, but for a woman’s appearance to be like that, it would be difficult to be compared to a beauty unless there was an angelic face. Not to mention she still had a big pancake face and sesame eyes, garlic nose and sausage mouth. Yu Zhi Le felt very hungry every time she saw her.
In the neighbourhood, the person who spoke the harshest about Yu Zi Huan’s mother would be Xie Cheng Long’s mother. If it was not for the fact that she often broadcasted loudly, who would keep mentioning this when it had happened more than ten years ago? Later on, she heard that when Xie Cheng Long’s father was young, he was once one of Yu Zi Huan’s mother pursuers. Then, Yu Zhi Le understood. Moreover, it was said that whenever he got drunk, he would talk about the young and beautiful girl of his dreams. No one could bear the thought of their husband letting the white moonlight of his heart illuminating on earth from time to time.
The question was, if he was so obsessed with her, why didn’t he do this earlier? When his dream lover was being bullied and insulted by everyone, no one saw him jumping out to become a messenger of justice. It was just a middle-aged man moaning, groaning, having his needs unfulfilled and pitying that Yu Zi Huan’s mother could not be in peace after her death.
The most innocent was Yu Zi Huan. Seeing that he was becoming more and more like his mother and so much better than Xie Cheng Long, Xie Cheng Long’s mother felt that she had the right to vent her anger. And when she was free she would instill within Xie Cheng Long the idea of not allowing Yu Zi Huan a chance to live well.
When Yu Zi Huan’s grandmother was still alive, they still had some scruples but in the year after her death, Yu Zi Huan became more and more sensitive and gloomy, mostly thanks to Xie Cheng Long who instructed the group of neighbourhood children to ignore him.
Even though Wang Da Ye also intervened a few times, however children were always good in front of adults but they act differently behind their backs. Yu Zi Huan was not his child after all, in many ways, he couldn’t interfere too much, and he was afraid of causing discontent from other children’s parents. Without having any adults to support him, there was no way to resolve it.
Fortunately, Yu Zhi Le appeared at that time.
With the timely reminder from Wang Da Ye and deterrence, Yu Zi Huan’s future in the community would probably improve.
It was just that Yu Zhi Le thought that after tonight’s chit-chat, the rest of her days here would not be too good.
After the group dispersed, Auntie No. 1 deliberately held her back and persuaded her to attend the blind date arranged by her. She said that the other person was her distant nephew. He is mature, sensible, tall and handsome as well as having a stable income, so Yu Zhi Le should seize the opportunity. She even asked whether she was going to take care of her brother forever and live as a spinster? A woman still had to marry and have children to have a complete life.
Regardless of whether or not Yu Zhi Le had already explicitly stated that she was not going, she told her to meet her at the tea house on the edge of the neighbourhood at 6 o’clock on Friday night.
Yu Zhi Le suppressed her anger so she did not respond to Auntie No.1. She was still twenty two years old and she didn’t mind being a single dog herself. She was an outsider who had never spoken to her of a total of ten words, why was she rushing? And even said that a woman must be married and have children for their life to be complete. She was not a female pig that was waiting to become full grown and ready for slaughter.
After silently cursing her for a long time, Yu Zhi Le even indignantly gave the middle finger at Auntie No.1’s back when no one was around to notice her. She felt that one was not enough and joined in with the other hand.
However, after seeing Yu Zi Huan, who was gasping for air heavily, coming over to her after playing basketball, Yu Zhi Le quickly stopped to prevent being a bad influence on him.
When it was close to bedtime, while Yu Zi Huan was taking a shower, Yu Zhi Le carried her blanket into the bedroom and was preparing to make a bed on the floor. In the end, she placed it this and that way, and found out that there was no place that could fully accommodate her.
Upon entering, there was a double bed and a small bookshelf, a desk and wardrobe by the window. And the aisle in the middle was about half a metre wide with a fan.
Yu Zhi Le contemplated for a long time. Either she put her head under the desk, her legs sandwiching the fan, or to have her legs stretch under the desk and her head to be where the fan was at. The other position was slightly better; laying across, avoiding the desk but not the fan.
When Yu Zi Huan walked in, what he saw was Yu Zhi Le holding the blanket with both hands and staring at the bottom of the desk with a blank expression.
“What are you doing?” Yu Zi Huan took out the towel around his neck and hung it on the back of the chair in front of the desk, he looked at Yu Zhi Le somewhat bewilderedly.
“I am thinking about a very serious problem.” Yu Zhi Le looked up with a serious and stern expression. “Which direction should I make my bed on the floor?”
Yu Zi Huan was speechless, “Do you think there is room to sleep on the floor?”
“No.” Yu Zhi Le shook her head truthfully.
Yu Zi Huan took the towel that was thrown on the bed, “So you sleep on the bed too.”
This is referring to Yu Zi Huan’s mother’s picture on the wall.
白月光(bái yuè guāng) -White Moonlight refers to a person who is remembered in one’s heart, that one has always loved, but cant touch. It usually refers to the intention of the sweetheart and the first love that one would never forget.
单身狗(dānshēngǒu)- Single dog is an internet slang which means a person who is neither married nor in a relationship. It is used in a self-deprecating manner.
