The Everlasting Supreme Immortal - Chapter 1
Legend had it that whenever the Dao atrophied and Samsara reached its end, the universe would birth ten Primordial Chaos Emperor Beasts.
They had bodies larger than that of the immortal realms. Wherever they went, the sky would crack and the earth would crumble. Time and space would distort. The stars would wither, and all living creations would perish.
After having destroyed the world of old, they would vanish without a trace. From then on, the world would regenerate. The order would be rebuilt. Life would be restored. A new world would be born.
It was midnight. The rain poured down in torrents. Dense black clouds gathered as if they were a horde of ravenous demons overlooking the tenebrous human world.
Numerous bright flashes of lightning zipped among the clouds like snakes. The deafening cracks of thunder shook heaven and earth.
“Tianming, save me!”
Suffering from an excruciating headache, Li Tianming opened his eyes after a great struggle as he withstood the violent assault of the rain.
In front of him was a roc with two pairs of gold-feathered wings that lay on the ground. The majestic bird was scarred and battered. Blood flowed from its wounds. Mixing with the rain, it dyed a large patch of the soil crimson.
“Jin Yu!” Upon seeing this scene, Li Tianming felt his heart being torn apart. The gold-feathered, four-winged roc was his lifelong kindred beast, his comrade who had been fighting by his side for sixteen years!
An ear-shattering thunder resonated. Lightning split the horizon. After a spark of brilliant light, a three-eyed, purple eagle descended from the sky.
Discharges of lightning crackled around the three-eyed eagle. It ferociously screeched and held Jin Yu down with its sharp claws. It then opened its beak and began to yank Jinyu’s golden feathers one by one.
Each yank of a feather resulted in a gaping, bloody wound.
Jin Yu’s cries of pain were like needles that pierced Li Tianming’s chest, the agony so searing that he could barely breathe!
“Li Tianming, how dare you attempted to drug Mu Qingqing and assault her. Given your vile behavior, I, a disciple of Yan Huang Academy Palace’s Celestial House, will exact punishment upon you!”
Mounting on the three-eyed eagle was a youth. Between his brows was a thunder crest. Amid the storm and his steering of the eagle, he appeared imposing like the son of the thunder god.
“On behalf of your record of good performance, I shall spare you. As for your gold-feathered, four-winged roc, it will be executed!” The youth declared.
He’s going to kill Jin Yu!
“Brother Ting, the martial spirit of the sacred beast is yours now. A scum such as Li Tianming is not worthy of being paired with a kindred beast of this caliber.”
Nestled in the youth’s arms was a stunning maiden. Due to the deluge of rain, she had been completely soaked. Her figure seemed even more enticing.
Even if he was to be reduced to ashes, there was no way that Li Tianming would be unable to recognize her. She was none other than Mu Qingqing!
Her “Brother Ting” was Lin Xiaoting, the youth riding the three-eyed eagle, also known as the Thunder Boy.
Li Tianming finally understood everything.
Their reason for killing Jin Yu was to steal the martial spirit of the sacred beast!
In this country, everyone knew just how precious martial spirits of the sacred beasts were. They were invaluable. They were even said to be the legendary remnants of the Sacred Beasts themselves, and the effect of one could produce a strongman who could rise above all!
Li Tianming’s possession of the martial spirit of the sacred beast had already been refined by Jin Yu and absorbed into its feathers.
Volcanic fury rose within him. At this moment, he was about to erupt and burst into flames!
Except, he couldn’t understand why he was unable to move his body. He could only gape at Jin Yu’s feathers being plucked by that lightning eagle. Helpless, he watched as fresh blood drained from Jin Yu’s body, as it cried out to him.
Its eyes full of plea and torment tugged at Li Tianming’s heartstrings.
Is there any feeling in the world more wretched than witnessing one’s comrade being tortured to death and being unable to do anything about it?
“Lin Xiaoting! Mu Qingqing! As long as I still breathe, I will send you two down to the depths of hell!” Li Tianming would never forget their names, not even in death. He struggled to fight, desiring to shred them to pieces!
The bizarre thing was that they began to distance themselves farther away from him. Thick fog and lightning engulfed them. Suddenly, everything before his eyes had vanished.
Li Tianming stood in the grey between heaven and earth, looking around with a bewildered expression.
Where did they go?!
The opening of a door reverberated in his ears.
“Ming’er, you had a nightmare again,” a gentle voice with a hint of pity said.
Li Tianming woke up with a splitting headache. He had propped himself up from bed with his frail arms before he finally opened his eyes. In front of him was his dimly lit bedchamber. The candle’s flame in the corner flickered, drawing out a long shadow of the chairs and table.
“So it was all a nightmare. No wonder why I couldn’t move.”
However, it was no mere dream because they had truly happened in real life!
The scenes and everything that they had said were the same as that time!
He, Li Tianming, had once been known as a prodigy who hailed from the City of Distant Flames, located on the border of the Vermillion Bird Nation. The son of the Lord of the City of Distant Flames!
Three years ago, Li Tianming had received recognition from the Yan Huang Academy Palace. Carrying the hopes of his fellow people on his shoulders, he ventured to the academy to cultivate.
On the way to Yan Huang Academy Palace, he encountered Mu Qingqing, another prodigy who came from the remote City of Delphic Winds. Like a classic fairy tale of the knight in shining armor who had rescued the princess, the two had fallen in love. They had courted for a year and assisted one another on the path to cultivation.
Throughout this one year of courtship, Mu Qingqing had used “cultivation is the top priority” as the reason to not disclose their relationship.
Li Tianming had thought that she was truly the one. With heart and soul in bliss, he had been willing to cosset her.
It had never crossed his mind that he had never recognized for the type of person she truly had been. He had been caught off guard by her wild ambition!
That same year, Li Tianming had chanced upon a martial spirit of the sacred beast during the Battle at Deep Abyss inside Yan Huang Academy Palace’s otherworldly dimension. It was an ancient feather and inscribed on it was an emblem from the primordial times. He had known just how invaluable it was, so he had to keep his discovery with strict confidentiality. He had to first let his kindred beast, Jin Yu, refine the power into its feathers.
From beginning to end, he had never told anyone of this secret but Mu Qingqing!
He had never thought that the person whom he had trusted the most would relay news of the martial spirit of the sacred beast to the Celestial House’s Lin Xiaoting!
Just like that, she had stabbed Li Tianming in the back, kicked him away, and become Lin Xiaoting’s girlfriend.
The Celestial House of Yan Huang Academy Palace was the academy’s most highly guarded place. Only the most promising geniuses within the Kingdom of Ju could enter. Each one of them was a tale of the marvelous.
The forces supporting them were essentially the Kingdom of Ju’s prominent families, which included the nobles. For instance, Lin Xiaoting came from the powerful House of the Thunder Overlord.
Such a powerful background was beyond what Li Tianming could ever hope for.
That particular night was the first anniversary of their courtship. Li Tianming had meticulously prepared a gift for her. She had been delighted when he had presented it to her, and afterward, she had cajoled him to have a drink. Not knowing that he had been schemed against, just when he had begun to make his moves on Mu Qingqing, Lin Xiaoting had appeared.
What had happened after that was exactly how his dream had played out. They cruelly killed Jin Yu and stole his martial spirit of the sacred beast.
The only difference was that he and Jin Yu had stood their ground and fought to the death. Despite their efforts, they had been unable to defeat the super prodigy of the Yan Huang Academy Palace’s Celestial House, Lin Xiaoting.
Rumors had it that Li Tianming had failed in his pursuit of Mu Qingqing, so he had drugged her and nearly done the unspeakable. However, Mu Qingqing’s boyfriend, Lin Xiaoting, had caught him in the act and eliminated Li Tianming’s kindred beast!
Since then, not only had Li Tianming lost his partner, his reputation had also been tarnished. He had become the laughingstock of Yan Huang Palace Academy, and eventually, out of helplessness, he had left.
In due course, Mu Qingqing had entered the Celestial House to cultivate with the help of Lin Xiaoting. In a short period, she had grown remarkably powerful. Relying on the power of the martial spirit of the sacred beast, Lin Xiaoting had soared to an unprecedented height, becoming the number one prodigy of the Celestial House!
The two had become the fairy tale of immortal romance. They, who had once taken great pleasure in deriding Li Tianming’s fate of losing his kindred beast and becoming a waste, had no longer found him as the subject of interest other than serving as an occasional laugh here and there.
Who would have thought that he and Mu Qingqing once had a year-long affair?
Three years had passed since his return to the City of Distant Flames.
During this time, he had lived a meaningless life like an undead, or rather something minuscule like an ant. If not for determination to seek vengeance, if not for his ailing mother, he would’ve had long holed up somewhere and rotted to death.
Whenever it rained, he would dream of what had happened that night. He would see their eyes full of contempt and disgust. He would see Jin Yu’s feathers getting plucked one by one, suffering from lingering death.
Now that he was awake, the memory of that night replayed in his mind. He remembered each expression etched on their faces.
Li Tianming’s eyes turned bloodshot, contrasting the backdrop of his dark room.
It had been three years already. This dream had once again triggered him to remember the tribulation that he had undergone.
Three years of cooling down were still not enough to slake his thirst for revenge!
“Ming’er, fear not. Sleep with ease. Mother is here.” Whenever he was at his angriest, the kind woman beside him would caress his forehead, pacifying him in the process.
Under the flickering candlelight, his mother, Wei Jing, appeared even more macilent and aged. Even so, her eyes would be filled with unconditional love whenever she gazed at her son.
“Mother, apologies. I startled you.” Li Tianming took a deep breath. From the time that he had escaped from his shackles of humiliation and injustice, he had understood that the most practical thing to do was to take care of this woman who had birthed him.
“It’s nothing.” Wei Jing weakly stood up and continued, “I saw that you were not well and was afraid that it might rain, so I made boiled some qinglingcao into an herbal soup. I’ll bring it to you right now.”
“Qinglingcao is your medicine. Mother, how can you be so clumsy? Without that, how will you live on?” Li Tianming grew anxious. He quickly got up to help his mother.
Looking at her haggard complexion distressed him. The doctor had said that she would not last long in her current condition. Despite it all, she would wake up every midnight to brew his medicinal herbs.
“Ming’er, I have lived enough. These good things should be left to you young ones. Using these on me is a waste,” she smiled at him as she spoke, despite her poor health.
“Nonsense! Hurry and drink it.” Li Tianming had already been used to her nags. If he did not press on, she would not regularly take her medicine.
“Okay, okay. I’ll drink it. As long as it makes my baby boy happy, I’ll drink it all up. When I was young, my alcohol tolerance level was very high!” She winked at him as if she was a quirky teenager once more.
Li Tianming monitored her as she drank the concoction down to the very last drop. This herbal soup could prolong her life, but she had just consumed the last of this month’s portion. He had no inkling of where to find the next batch of qinglingcao.
She had already sacrificed too much for him.
How was he worthy of someone like her?
He had once envisioned achieving something great and giving her a better life in return, but he had never imagined that he would degenerate into being a waste and depend on her for survival.
”Ming’er, you must remember. Fate will make good people suffer sometimes, but these hardships are a form of training. They will only make you stronger. It’s so that you will have a more wonderful life in the future. Do not give up. Fight on!” She cheered him on with verve.
“I know. Go to sleep now.” Li Tianming escorted her to her room. With roles reversed, he finally coaxed her to sleep after half an hour of chatter.
It was the dark of night.
Li Tianming stared at his mother’s wispy, silver hair and blanked out.
He sensed movement within the mystical space pocket inside his body.
This space was called the kindred space pocket. Every newborn on the Yan Huang Continent would be accompanied by a kindred space pocket inside the body.
Seven days after birth, an accompanying kindred beast would hatch inside the space pocket. Almost everyone on the continent had one.
Kindred beasts were mystifying, colorful, and diverse. The strongest ones could conquer the skies and tunnel the earth. The ancient ancestors had created a dual cultivation system between that of men and beasts which had resulted in the current symbiotic relationship.
The beastmaster and the kindred beast cultivate together. Their life force, bloodline, and wisdom are equally shared. They fight alongside each other and forge to become the ultimate combat unit.
Li Tianming had once been a beastmaster, and Jin Yu had been his kindred beast.
After its death, his kindred space pocket had been still for three years.
Until today…. It finally had movement!
Li Tianming was surprised and elated.
Within his space pocket was a big secret that no one knew about.
The secret was that other than Jin Yu who had been with him from the very beginning, there existed ten other mysterious eggs inside his space pocket!
After Jin Yu had hatched, these ten eggs had surfaced. However, they felt completely different from his roc.
More than ten years had passed, and they had shown no signs of hatching. Logically speaking, they were supposed to be Li Tianming’s kindred beasts as well, but such a situation had never happened in the history of the continent.
Today, though, he had a strong premonition.
These ten mysterious eggs were to hatch soon!
