Getting cut with a sword, explosive magic, and getting stunned by arrow attacks. Those were the threats.
The Spear Hero never returned. Maybe he’s growing mushrooms somewhere. 1 With that, I could scratch one Hero from my mind. For the moment, the other two members weren’t a big deal; their Gifts may not have been suitable for combat.
I am fighting as more than an equal against the Hero Party. This was proof of my strength and efforts.
I don’t even know what the name of my subspecies is, I’m just called a common demon.
Poor magical power with a poor body. I had nothing.
So I tried desperately to gain something. I remember my days of training. This is the result of all that.
I’m getting used to their movements.
The explosive spell is taken care of. I just pull off my fingers and intercept the bombs with them, detonating them before they reach the rest of me.
Since the arrows signaled the start of their attacks, I predicted the moment they shoot and dodged it, destroying their coordination.
All this was possible because I was a former Heavenly Knight.
If there was a problem–
A shadow appears with a short, piercing scream. It was the Hero with the Gift Omni-Slash.
I sweep my arm to intercept him, but the hand is cut off in a single silver flash.
If Offense was the best Defense, this Hero’s talent was embodying it.
I can’t take his sword attacks, so I have to dodge him. Even if I try to attack, he can prevent it with a slash.
Ultimately, he’s my biggest threat.
My dismembered parts are replaced with repair magic.
“–Haah,” he pants. “Is there no end to this?!”
“Well then, how about you surrender?” I asked.
The exhaustion is more severe for my enemies. If things continued like this, they’d have to withdraw.
“Shit!” the leader said before he put his hand to his ear. “Hey, come reinforce the 1st and 2nd Units!”
The village is surrounded by Heroes. I knew it from the activation of the golems I’d placed on the perimeter.
“It’ll be bad if I have to face more enemies here,” I thought.
“–Can’t–we’ve got golems here—we’re surrounded–!”
“–Bad, withdraw—didn’t tell us about this–!”
It’s difficult to hear for the sounds of battle and other loud noises, but it seems the golems are fighting well. As expected of my family.
“… Ha, haha. And you called yourselves Heroes,” I said. “You’re nothing, I’m just dealing with small fry.”
That was a lie. The Heroes are strong. I know that.
Then how am I fighting them?
It was because my golem, and by extension, myself, were all so strong.
That’s what’s going on. I am the best and the strongest. I’m just a common demon. However, with just hard work, I became one of the Four Heavenly Knights. My magic machine unit was strong and played an active role in any situation.
I hadn’t been recognized by anyone, but for some reason, I can boast about it.
I may have found myself in a predicament because of that pride.
“Smoldering seeds. Spread disaster. Explode…!”
I missed the chant.
It was also different from before, the fiery trails crawl along the ground. I finally noticed when they reached my feet—but by then, it was too late.
The back of one leg is blown off and I lose my balance.
The moment I tried to replace it, a lightning arrow hits me.
I’m completely defenseless.
“Unfortunate,” I thought.
I can’t move. I can’t respond.
I’m stuck on one knee.
It was only a few moments but that was enough time for me to fall into despair.
I can see the Hero with Omni-Slash jumping up.
He holds his sword high, it glimmers as it’s on a course for the golem’s head.
With a cruel grin, he was convinced of their victory.
“Oh, this is what death feels like–” I thought.
By the time the stun wears off, the Hero is already right before me. The golem was on the verge of getting split vertically. Of course, I would be as well, too, since I was inside it.
I can’t intercept him on time. Before my fist reaches the Hero, I’ll surely be dead.
The moment I was about to die, I was able to think calmly for some reason.
My consciousness accelerates and the world seems to slow down. It feels like it would take a few minutes or hours before I died.
Memories flash by much faster than before. From the moment I was born to the present, those memories float by and disappear like bubbles.
It was a short life of only 15 years.
I was born, despised, used so many times, and even after I became one of the Four Heavenly Kings, I got no recognition, and then—when I think about it, the months after I met Yuri felt longer than my whole life. I believe those times were fun.
My memories focus on the most entertaining parts.
Our first encounter, my defeat, our reunion, my second defeat—okay, it wasn’t that fun at all, yeah.
Will they kill Yuri if I die? Or will the remaining Golem Unit protect her? That’s all I cared about.
Well, when I die, I’m dragging them to hell with me.
My memories are still floating by. The Hero hasn’t even begun his downswing yet.
After all that, I exchanged rings with Yuri and we started living together, there were delicious food and peaceful times—an ideal slow life. I wanted to continue that life a little longer.
I took a bird’s eye view of my consciousness and my personality.
I’ve just learned the taste of alcohol. It was a regrettable evening.
Also, I don’t remember much. I was frolicking by the lake at night.
“… Ah. That’s why she banned me from having alcohol again,” I thought.
My body and mind are disconnected, it was the reckless actions of a drunkard.
After that, I vomited my feelings… it was a pitiful scene. I’m sure it was.
“You’re a hard worker, kind, and cute, Eldora!”
“If you didn’t do your best, you absolutely wouldn’t have been a Heavenly Knight!”
Yuri recognized my efforts. Wasn’t she an understanding person?
Maybe that’s why I felt comfortable living with her.
However, what’s the point of remembering it now? It’s too late.
I’ll be dead in the next moment.
I have few memories left. When I run out, it’s my end. I felt resignation.
“I won’t go! I don’t want to watch you die, Eldora…!”
Yuri said that when she protected me from El’torilis.
I ignore the feelings it brings up, the memories continue.
I remember slipping and falling into the lake.
From here, my vague memory gets even hazier.
Yuri pulled me up and laid me on the shore. Before I knew it, I was on the verge of death from a pitiful accident.
Yuri is worried. She’s looking at me, my face is a deep blue. I’m smiling slightly.
Her expression twists like she’s made a decision.
She comes closer to my vision and puts her lips on my mouth.
“–Wha, why did you decide to kiss meeeeeee–?!”
It was a perfect reflection of Yuri’s memories.
It wasn’t intentional. Her memories had just gotten mixed in with mine.
At the same time as my most intense screaming ever echoes in the air, I control Eldoran with magic.
My arm would never intercept him in time.
However, my head hit him with such overwhelming speed and force that it made his martial skills, swordsmanship, magic, and his Gift utterly meaningless.
It was a frighteningly fast movement like I was shaking out the images that had played out in my mind.
That Hero was unlucky enough to get caught in it.
Splat, it sounded like I’d just crushed a big. Actually, it was more of a roaring sound. His back crashes into the ground and creates a giant gouge in the dirt.
I heard his death rattle… or maybe not. All Heroes are incredibly durable.
The companions who were so sure of victory saw my sudden counter-attack (?) and stood stunned, their mouths agape.
I don’t care about them at all. More than them–
“Ai… aii?! What the fuck do you think you’re doing? – Hah… ki–‘kiss’?! What’s the meaning of this… what’s the meaning of this…?!”
I don’t even know what I’m saying anymore. What I just saw was confusing. I was sure, however, that Yuri was an idiot.
A kiss, a kiss, something like that has no meaning. At least for me.
I don’t need the act of affirming love, I don’t feel anything. That’s what I believed.
“Waah, it hurts! Urk–!”
My heart is beating fast—it’s no longer ringing like an alarm bell. It feels like it’s rocketing inside my body and smashing into all my other internal organs and bones.
“AAAAAAAHHHH–! WHAT DOES IT MEAN, WHAT, WHAT, WHAT, SERIOUSLY, AGH–!”
“… Wha-What the fuck are you doing?”
I roar at him in panic.
The leader is scared. I don’t what’s going on anymore. This is bullshit.
This excitement—I had a strange sense that I could use it to stop this bloodshed.
“Hey, hey,” I yelled, “are you still willing to fight?! This guy was the strongest among you, right?! I’ve taken him down, are you stronger than me?!”
They get even more scared and pathetic. Then, a message comes into his earpiece.
“–This unit’s been wiped out—”
My golems have won.
The color drains from the leader’s face.
He squeals and stammers, “… r-retreat—all units, retreeaaaat!”
As ordered, all the remaining who can still move flees. With one hand, I pick up a Hero laying on the ground who may still be alive and run as well.
I detect the golems around the perimeter have stopped moving. It looks like the battle is over.
I stop and stand.
I was the only one left in the silence. No, it wasn’t quiet at all.
My heart is still roaring in my chest, my blood sounds like a raging sea.
I wasn’t on the verge of death and I was sweating buckets.
“Nyaaaannn… what is this…–?”
Even after it was all over, I couldn’t do a thing.
T/N: And that brings us to the end of all the available chapters in the raws for now! I don’t know about you, but Eldora managing to win through the power of sheer embarrassment was one of the highlights of this series for me, second only to her drunk-engineering Ultimate Eldoran.
The series hasn’t updated since January but the author is actively responding to Twitter and Syosetu comments. They’re confident they can continue writing this story so for now, I’ll be busy with school.
Demon King’s Daughter will continue at some later date.
