The Apocalypse's Necromancer - Chapter 1
A WILD SMOGGY APPEARS!
Hello! Smoggy has officially joined Foxaholic! Though I plan to move my newer chapters here, I MIGHT be moving the ones I posted previously here too, so for now, feel free to continue reading my previous works on Smoggy Translates.
This is a new title I picked up, specifically for this place, I hope you guys enjoy it! I’ve skimmed through it and it’s really an interesting title OwO But I also just noticed that there is an MTL group working on this at the same time OwO
As usual, if you enjoyed my work, please consider supporting me through my Ko-fi o(´▽｀)o
On a quiet night, lights shone from within a simple and cramped room.
Ye Yang, all dressed in a dark grey sportswear, stood solemnly beside his bed as he adjusted the backpack behind his back before covering his head and face with a safety hat and a face mask. A night-vision binoculars hanged from his neck while he held a huge and sturdy sunglasses on his left hand.
There is only one word to describe his current appearance, and it was none other than ‘weird as hell’.
Ye Yang stared straight ahead of him before muttering softly under his breath, “System!”
Nothing happened to the space between him and the wall, as he was the only person who could see the huge screen right in front of him.
Host: Ye Yang
Class: Necromancer (Lv 1)
– Raise Dead
– Dimension Hopping
Ye Yang frowned slightly, deep in thought.
All of this had happened about half a year ago, where he began noticing half-translucent objects floating around him, giving him a huge scare as he had initially thought that he had somehow gained the ability to see ghosts, but after confirming that that was not the case, he had suspected that something went wrong with his eyes.
The doctor had confirmed that his eyes were perfectly fine, but Ye Yang had continued with the eye treatment due to fear of losing his eyes.
But a week ago, the blurry floating objects had somehow solidified into a half-translucent screen, with simple words and numbers on it.
He had spent some time researching on this weird ‘system’ thing before finally coming into conclusion of a few things.
Firstly, this ‘system’ was not intelligent at all, as it was extremely quiet and communication was not possible. Secondly, whenever he focused his thoughts on ‘close’, the screen would disappear from his view in a poof, appearing once again when he summons it.
Lastly, if he focused his mind on ‘check skills’, a description would appear right next to his two available skills.
Raise Dead (Lv 1): Allows you to temporarily ‘revive’ a human body who has been dead for less than 15 minutes. The summoned creature will obey your every command until it is destroyed or discarded.
Condition 1: The summoner must be within 20 metres of the human body to cast this skill.
Condition 2: The human body’s heart and brain must be in decent condition, eg: damage to the said body parts must not be more than 5%.
Condition 3: For the time being, the cause of death of the human body must not be due to the summoner.
There are plenty of bodies that fit the conditions of the said skill, as the population of the world had just passed 70 billion, and Ye Yang’s country consists of at least 14 billion human population.
Take for instance, the average lifespan of a human being to be 75 years old, that means there are more than 50,000 deaths per day, in other words, more than 2,000 people are dying every hour in his country.
Though his country is huge, it would not be difficult for him to find some if he put his mind to it, but it’s a risky move, as his secret operation could be caught on tape by the hidden cameras in the cities.
Which was why he had fixed his sights on a slightly further place, and coincidentally, while taking the bus to a slightly small town, he came across a fresh road accident.
The victim had died instantly, as his breathing and heart-beat had stopped entirely, but there was no damage to his heart and his brain as the victim had died to a sudden heart-attack.
Noticing the opportunity instantly, Ye Yang had got closer to the scene in order to fulfill the ‘distance condition’ before finally casting the skill.
Instantly, the victim, who was officially pronounced dead, stood up suddenly before flailing his arms around at the horrified medical personnel around him.
His arm strength was… exceptional.
Ye Yang had stared in shock for a few seconds before quickly cancelling the skill instantly, causing the body to crash once again onto the ground.
He had found other opportunities to experiment his skill, but though things had been successful, he… had discarded all of the raised summons instantly.
Though, this was mainly due to the legal laws in his country, which could be considered strict as compared to the other countries he knew.
It would not be difficult to get his hands on a body who had been dead for days, but fresh bodies who had died in less than fifteen minutes ago, that was not something he could take home easily.
Furthermore, as soon as he’s 20 meters away from the body, his spell would be interrupted, and if he doesn’t get back in range within 15 minutes, the body would be ‘dead’ once again, and he could not raise the same body twice.
Though even if he did managed to do it, there was no way he could hide a zombie in a city…
Ye Yang, too, was just an ordinary and average citizen, just another nobody with no savings and no acquaintances in special or unique positions, hence he did not have the means to enter a warzone, let alone the fact that he wouldn’t dare to even if he could.
Which was why he had finally set his sights on his second skill – Dimension Hopping, but until now, he had learned nothing new from this skill.
Dimension Hopping (Lv ?): [email protected]#$%…… (—) ??
Ye Yang had been confused when he had initially read the skill, and assuming that it was an error, he had given it half a year to load, but still, nothing happened.
Furthermore, he had not dared to use the skill, who knows where this skill will send him to? Another country? Outer space? Or some other parallel dimension hell?
Plus, it wouldn’t be so bad if the skill casting failed midway, but if it sent him into the middle of a dangerous zone, he could’ve died immediately!
He had but one life, after all.
This was why he had wasted half a year, researching about dimensions and waiting for the skill summary to turn clearer, though unfortunately, things had not gone with his plans.
The skill summary had not loaded, in fact, more symbols were appearing instead…
And it was on this day that his patience had finally ran out, he knew he should continue waiting, but the muddled up words were really getting onto his nerves.
“The only option left was to wait, or take a leap of faith and become the lab rat……”
Was he truly willing to be one? Of course not.
But if he hadn’t received this gift, he would probably had worked at a stable job and fulfill his job as an average human being… He might not have been contented with his unchanging 9 to 6 schedule, but after working hard for decades of years, he would still be able to enjoy his retirement like a normal person.
Now… That was not an option, at least not for him.
“Necromancer… If any of this is real, I’m sure this is not the end… Imagine welding the power over life and death… How can I waste such an opportunity?”
“Why should I be fearful of the unknown? Who knows how many people in the world would give their lives for a chance at such power…”
That was why, for an entire month, Ye Yang had been busy preparing the things he might need once he reached another dimension.
Ye Yang stared at the objects he collected throughout the entire month, “I hope I did not miss out anything important…” He gulped nervously as he took a deep breath.
“System, do it… [Dimension Hopping]!”
