  2. Second to None: the Rebirth of a Popular Slave
  3. Chapter 12 - The Siren’s Curse
Prev

This Sheyla Melody, at first was very like able due to her pitiful past, where her parents abandoned her and she was grown by her mysterious maternal grandmother, the current queen. All her life, she was silent and alone, but humble. She sometimes would chat with her supposedly best friend.

This best friend knew she liked a famous prince but at Sheyla’s 18th birthday, her best friend and the famous prince got together. When Sheyla discovered it, she escaped from the castle and got lost. Found a ‘magical’ lake and when her tears dropped in the lake, an handsome siren surfaced and revealed her origins. Her father was a siren and she was the last person belonging to the ancient lineage.

Obviously, Sheyla didn’t believe him, but he helped her return to the castle so from then on they slowly developed intimate feelings. In the classes, she would accidentally blow her siren’s magic… at first nobody noticed but the more Sheyla followed the handsome siren training, the more she would lose control. Then, the entire castle banned her, she was captured by a group of strange fairies and magicians, who in the end weren’t that bad.

The frustrating situation was that: Sheyla was stubborn and always got in danger. The fairies and magicians would always go to her rescue. Even when they told her the correct method to defend, she wasn’t that much grateful. Handsome siren here, handsome siren there… she was so much in love that, when the handsome siren finally personally found her to take her back, she helped him hurt the fairies and magicians. But when she witnessed his true character, she would only repeat that she was sorry for her loyal group.

After a while, she somehow sent a huge blow (a never practiced one) to him and ran back to the group of magicians and fairies, who obviously didn’t blame her but instead complimented her, saying that she was under a spell etc and that she has matured.

Matured the heck!

The handsome siren was still alive! And thanks to the siren’s healing property, he quickly recuperated.

Sheyla was personally taught by the handsome prince, although she wasn’t good at controlling magic, he had to tell her some truth, plus, Sheyla has tested them before… that huge blow was for nothing! A fairy from her loyal group was acting strange. Everyone said: we must investigate. The sensible Sheyla refused. And when the strange fairy striked at them, Sheyla shouted: she must be possessed! And everyone: yes! You are so clever!

So clever that Peony skipped many chapters, glanced at some paragraphs and reached the ending.

While she was skillfully reading, she thought that the siren guy would surely come back.

As expected, that handsome siren in the end captured Sheyla. They had a big battle, the sky was dark, the ground destroyed, the aiding group half dead, but the handsome siren killed that Sheyla…

This book was reprinted, and on the fourth cover there were comments from famous headlines:

“An unmissable dark-romantic love story about a girl looking for her origins” by Big City Times

“A remarkable book that only Laurencia Curtking can write” by WrongSurname.Net

“A fascinating adventure to read to the last breath” by Black Documents Int

What did they mean????! Why were all the comments kinda the same??!?!

Oh yeah, this book was reprinted, so on the third cover there was a short biography about the author, and all the books she has published: ‘The Melody Saga: The Siren’s Curse, The Siren’s Revival, The Siren’s Song’…

In the library it wasn’t a crime to read books even though they weren’t rented. The female librarian was busy writing on the pc or checking in and out the books that the latest people would bring, so she didn’t immediately notice that this little child was reading a… book?! Even if she could clearly see her… only after two hours she has realized that this child was a little peculiar… From behind the desk, when the child wanted to replace the book, the librarian whispered: “Wait…!”

Peony turned her face and observed this librarian whose head was in the clouds. That woman would often annoy her with her clicks and tap tap on the pc while she was reading… and she already knew that this woman wasn’t aware of her own shy laughs, strong tap tap and click click and sometimes she would scream excitedly and say: vote!

And right now… she was whispering at her?!

But nevertheless, Peony walked towards her with the book and asked: “Yes?”

“What are you reading?”

“The Siren’s Curse”

“The Siren’s Curse?!” the librarian continued to whisper. She then looked at the monitor: “What a coincidence… there’s actually a story on Webnovel about a child, and the latest chapter is about her reading the Siren’s Curse”

Peony felt strange…: “Eh?!” she exclaimed surprised.

I guess even the readers are feeling strange, right? The mystery will be slowly unfolded.

The librarian talked in a serious manner, still whispering: “I voted ten times, I hope the author will keep writing”

Peony: “What is Webnovel?”

“It’s an online platform where translators can officially publish translated chinese novels picked from a chinese website. One can even start writing an original novel”

“Oh? Are you writing one?”

The librarian vaguely smiled: “Right, did you like the book? Did you finish it? If you want I can keep it for you, and if you come back tomorrow with your parents… you can still read it”

The librarian believed that this child got off from a car and ran in the library. Those things would often happen. Parents were busy and trusted the librarian to take care of their children for a while…

Peony honestly replied: “I have already read it and find it terrible… And I live nearby, so my parents don’t need to take me here”

“Oh, I am so sorry. Mhh… you are chinese, right?”

“Yeah?” Peony lazily placed the book on the desk.

“I am quite interested in this culture… and I am half chinese myself. My name’s Bai Lan… what’s yours?” In fact, she had some weak asian traces…

Didn’t this librarian notice that she was conversing with a reluctant child?

Peony came up with a new name: “Sheyla”

Bai Lan started to blabbering about this name and explain the meaning of hers…

Peony hastily interrupted her: “I have to return home!” and quickly fled from this scary woman who was giving too much attention to her. Nurse Samy was much different, she was patient and peaceful… but Bai Lan… đź’™

She didn’t know how, but she bumped into a cute little angel in the middle of the street. Golden hair and deep blue ocean eyes, pretty baby plump face and a soft body… Luckily this cute angel withstood her rushing weight: “Ugh”

Peony blankly stared at him and quickly examined the condition of his body… uh? Wearing a formal suit in a kinda lost small town?: “You alright” she asked without any real interest.

The cute angel glimpsed at her and then lowered the head. His ears were red… After what it seemed a long time, and he was playing with his hands embarrassed, he nodded.

Peony was in a hurry, so she didn’t question anymore. After ten steps, she climbed the gate (author BD: I forgot to say there was a gate) while thinking that that small boy really looked like an angel, impressively looked like an angel…

Anyway, when she entered in the home, phew… Juan Li didn’t return early. Good. She began to cook… because she didn’t want to act as a real child, okay? Only if they gave her money she would… cough cough. And, she wanted to subdue that mother, with her ‘useful talents’. In the past, one of Juan Li’s common sentences was: comparing other people’s abilities with her. Oh, your cousin learned to cook ready noodle at 6 years old. Oh, this kid knows how to wash and clean. Oh, this 3 years old child can sing and dance… Don’t direct your faults onto your children… because in the end, this child of yours is also a living being, and you were the one teaching stuff. Maybe not.

For dinner, she used the rice of lunch/dinner to make the chinese salad rice, what was it called. And three big plates of vegetables.

Outside the house, Juan Li got off from the car drove by a chinese co-worker and began to check the garden. She quickly watered them and then walked towards home.

But when she saw some familiar clothes hanging outside the mini apartment, she got worried. Did her husband come back and washed them…? How could it be, this person could only sleep, eat and work… So it was the little child of hers?

If yes… finally! This girl was finally doing something other than sleeping, eating and playing.

She accelerated her pace and opened the door.

Smell of cooked food hit her nose…! WHAT WAS THIS GIRL DOING?!!??
