S-Class Dungeon's Mistress - Chapter 1
“Finally. Is this the last room?”
The bloodstained adventurer, Dylan, murmured as he swept his blond hair. He had a feeling that the subjugation of this dungeon was just a step away.
This was an S-class dungeon. An infamous place where no adventures have returned whole, and one that has yet to be conquered.
It was easier to subjugate this dungeon than he had expected. It was thanks to the fact that by chance he had caught a Succubus hanging around the dungeon entrance and had it guide them. Because of this, the party of adventurers avoided numerous trap rooms and was able to reach the treasure room quickly.
No one has ever conquered it, so there must be sparkling treasures waiting for them. Dylan had such a thought as the portal opened.
However, what welcomed the excited Dylan and his companions when they crossed the portal was not a mountain of gold or splendid treasures but a normal hall with a golden chair in the middle.
The black marble ground was spotless without a grain of dust and the carpet neatly laid over it was smooth like it was brand new. It even smelled good.
“Isn’t this supposed to be the treasure room?”
As soon as Dylan muttered with a look of disbelief, the archer, Lila, shouted with urgency.
“Dylan, over there!”
The place where she pointed to, a black shadow stood undetected until now.
In the deep darkness, the appearance of a man gradually appeared. Flowing silver hair as if it was melted from the moonlight and golden pupils that glistened coldly. At last, the face that was completely revealed was as beautiful as an elaborate work of art. So much so that it defied common sense.
From the distance, the adventurers stared vacantly at him as if they were possessed. They couldn’t bring themselves to move under the unknown pressure. Mana was overflowing around the man.
The adventurers hurriedly got into position.
Dylan, who was composed, also gripped his weapon. Sweat permeated his palms due to the tension.
There are very few among the demons who have the title of ‘Devil.’ No matter how infamous S-class dungeons are, Devils rarely appear.
In other words, the man in front of them was stronger than any other demons they have ever met.
To make matters worse, a large man with an indifferent expression appeared behind the Devil. With blood red hair and a long horn on his head, it was another Devil.
It was already too much to deal with one, but now there were two Devils. In this situation where the outcome was obvious, a sense of helplessness overcame Dylan.
Then, a bright voice emerged from the still silence.
At the out-of-place lighthearted voice, Dylan turned his head and identified the perpetrator.
A beautiful Succubus with straight black hair like ebony walked past him. It was the same Succubus that they had entrusted to guide them.
“Adela! You were an agent of the Devils…!”
He glared coldly at her beautiful back. She slowly turned around and looked at Dylan.
Staring at the adventurers, her cherry blossom-like eyes felt as if they were filled with magic that was on the verge of engulfing them.
Dylan felt goosebumps all over his body at the rather simple word. It was because it was not the kind of magic that a Succubus should have.
Soon, the Devils approached the Succubus naturally. The silver haired Devil hung a colorful robe over her shoulder, and the horned Devil clicked his tongue as he tidied her hair.
“You’re here. Thank you for your efforts.”
“You and your hobby of inviting unnecessary trouble. How many times do I have to tell you that you don’t need to do this anymore?”
The Devils’ polite and friendly attitude toward the Succubus made the adventurers forget the situation as it left their mouths agape. Dylan’s blue eyes wavered with shock.
“Stop your nagging.”
The Succubus spoke confidently as she pulled on the collar of the horned Devil. He furrowed his eyebrows as if he was annoyed, but he lowered himself naturally with a frown.
Then it was followed by an intimate kiss. Not caring about the audience in front of her, their breaths mixed and their tongues entwined.
“Okay, that’s enough.”
With a pleased look, the Succubus pushed the Devil’s face away.
On the other hand, the Devil who spoke as if it was troublesome, looked very disappointed.
The Succubus walked leisurely to the dazzling golden chair and sat down. Staring down at the group of adventurers, her languid eyes were not those that belonged to the same Succubus they’ve been with but one that belonged to a king.
“You…Who are you?”
With difficulty, Lila opened her mouth instead of Dylan who had become stiff as ice. Then, the Succubus answered with a big smile.
“Me? I’m the master here.”
Adelaide, the master of the S-class dungeon with the greatest Devils.
That was her true identity.
* * *
Adelaide was not a successful dungeon master in the beginning. She was living a very different life just a few months ago. Rather than success, it was a life close to failure.
Adelaide, who was napping, lifted her heavy eyelids at the sound of her name. But before she could answer, a wild fist struck her in the back of the head.
“Oh my devil, Adela. You’re hurt just from this much? How much longer are you going to slack off work?!”
Penelope, a fellow succubus as well as Adelaide’s best friend and colleague, used Adelaide’s weakness as an excuse to hit her. Feeling wronged, Adelaide looked up at her with a frown. It was a death glare longing for revenge.
“Why are you glaring at me? It’s true that you’re weak.”
“You look even prettier than the last time I saw you, Pepe.”
Adelaide grabbed the back of her throbbing head and quickly smiled pushing the situation. It was because she didn’t want another beating.
Penelope sighed at her shameless behavior. She’d rather that she go wild, but her colleague didn’t even have the will to.
“What the hell are you going to do…”
“Pepe, were you just on your way back from work?”
Adelaide hurriedly changed the topic when there was a sign of another nagging. But unfortunately, this wasn’t a good topic either.
“Yeah, I was just on my way back from consuming the vital force of an adventurer. Don’t just take a nap like this and get to work! What are you going to do if you keep weakening like that? In any case, Maximilian will kick you out of here at any moment now!”
At her simple question, a bomb of nagging came back. Realizing that she couldn’t avoid the topic forever, Adelaide dropped her eyebrows and answered meekly.
“But, this work isn’t right for me…”
“This work is right for who exactly? I’m doing it to make a living! Besides, look at your face and body. It’s meant for this kind of work! You have the talent for it!”
Penelope’s beautiful forehead creased as she shouted. She was worried about her best friend and colleague.
Adelaide and Penelope both belonged to Morpheus, one of the Succubus’ unions. Succubi had to steadily collect vital force to grow stronger or to survive. Instead of receiving commissions, the union helped Succubi find prey and provided them with accommodation and lodging. From the union’s perspective, the presence of Adelaide, who only sits around while taking up space, was a nuisance.
Since it was difficult to find food, it was necessary to belong to a union. If she was kicked out of the union, she was very likely to starve to death and eventually cease to exist unless she found another way to survive.
Adelaide knew this, but she was not motivated to work at all. And it wasn’t as simple as not working for a day or two. She has taken as much as 30 years off. Considering the physiology of Succubi, which requires vital force on a regular basis, it was almost as if she had pushed herself to the limit. She went very occasionally when Penelope first found out, but now she has stopped leaving the union altogether.
Adelaide argued that she was not cut out for this kind of work, but Penelope thought there was no better Succubus than her.
Long black hair like the clear night sky, a perfect face and figure like a porcelain doll, captivating pink pupils and eyes that curved upwards, and thick ruddy lips. Everything about her was beautiful.
By and large, she gave off a vacant and naive impression, but when she smiled with her eyes, it was full of color. There would be so many incubators who would fall into her hands with just a wink.
But unfortunately, even with such an aptitude, Adelaide was not interested in ‘bewitching men,’ as if to go against the destiny and nature of Succubi.
“I’m fine, I’m fine. It’s not like I’m going to get kicked out, right?”
Adelaide waved her hands with a relaxed look. It was because she knew how much Maximilian, the co-chairman of Morpheus, liked her appearance.
But exactly one day later after saying that.
Adelaide was kicked out. Without even a chance to pack a cape to stop the cold wind!
Adelaide vacantly looked at the union’s portal while calling out her former colleague and friend’s nickname. However, she was nowhere to be found as she had gone back to work. There was nothing Penelope could do to help anyway.
But there was nothing Penelope could do to help, who went out and wasn’t even there.
“I can’t believe I’ve been dumped twice in this hellhole…”
She sat down on the dirty ground and murmured. The situation was the same as when she was abandoned in front of this Morpheus union as a baby.
“This smell…Isn’t it a Succubus?”
“Succubus, it’s a Succubus!”
The lower-class demons, who were wandering the area, flared their nostrils and chased after Adelaide’s scent.
Startled, Adelaide hid herself in the shadow of a building. As she was always busy avoiding Maximilian, her hiding ability was excellent enough where even mid-class demons would have trouble finding her.
‘My home, my food!’
Feeling deflated, Adelaide sniffed with a sense of loss. Although she didn’t do her job properly as a Succubus, she swept and cleaned the building and helped with the chores in her spare time, so how could he kick her out without leaving her a single penny! Even her lodging disappeared in an instant, so she felt stuffy with the troubled thought of how to survive from now on.
At this time, the troubled Adelaide hoped an evil spirit would drop her a rope of salvation.
“Oh my devil!”
Suddenly hearing her name, Adelaide, jumped out of the shadow due to the shock.
And in front of her, standing there was a demon dressed in a neat suit with his hair straightened back. It was a man with a somewhat tired look on his face.
“Miss Adelaide of Morpheus, correct?”
“I’m not working for Morpheus anymore…but Adelaide is me. And you are?”
When Adelaide acknowledged herself with a perplexed face, the man, who was clearly a senior demon, summoned some documents in his hand. Then, without any emotion, he began to speak in a business-like tone.
“My name is Jaimie and I’m a lawyer. Harbeige, your grandfather, has designated you as his sole heir. A dungeon property is part of the inheritance. For more information, please check the documents.”
Adelaide’s pink pupils sparkled with joy.
There’s nothing better than death laws! It was her first time hearing the existence and death of a relative, but at the same time, the inheritance was more important to her than family.
Dungeon was a good means of making money in Devildom. There was such a saying of ‘Dungeons are above the Creator.’
Adelaide felt overwhelmed by the man’s words, so she repeatedly nodded without listening properly. The lawyer wearing glasses raised one eyebrow and asked carefully.
“…You want the inheritance?”
“Yes! Of Course! Yes!”
Adelaide answered without a second’s hesitation. And then under his guidance, she signed the documents accordingly all the while forgetting Penelope’s advice to read every document carefully and thoroughly before signing them.
“With this, all of Harbeigh’s property has been inherited by his heir apparent, Adelaide…Naturally, the problem as well.”
“What? What sort of problem…”
The lawyer only said what he had to say and then disappeared. At the spot where he disappeared, a copy of the document Adelaide signed was all that remains.
