Quick Transmigration: The Second Female Lead is Poisonous - Chapter 40
As the temperature dropped, a strong wind started to rise and the sand on the ground began to dance in the air.
Luo Ying, who had spent his life living in the desert, immediately noticed the changes in the weather. “The sandstorm is coming! Hey, hurry indoors!”
Bai Rong didn’t move so Xiao Ruo also didn’t move.
Fengguang pulled on Xuean’s sleeve again. His gaze darkened and pulled her in front of him with one arm firmly wrapped around her waist. She was trapped in his embrace. With his other arm, he held an exquisitely decorated knife and pressed it against her pale neck.
“Have your people retreat.”
“Wait, don’t hurt her!” Bai Rong shouted. She naturally did not care if Fengguang lived or died but she was being blackmailed by Wang Ci. If Fengguang didn’t return in one piece to the prime minister’s home, then her identity as a woman pretending to be a man would be revealed. It’s not that she couldn’t handle the emperor’s wrath but she didn’t want to burden Xiao Ruo.
“Are you not going to have your archers retreat?” Xuean’s blade pressed further and blood instantly appeared on Fengguang’s neck. The colour of fresh blood was especially apparent on her pale skin and visually piercing to the eye.
Luo Ying expressed surprise but did not say anything else.
Fengguang’s face went frighteningly pale as she looked towards Xiao Ruo. “Cousin… Save me…”
Xiao Ruo’s eyes narrowed. Yes, she was his cousin. She was also the prime minister’s most treasured and beloved daughter… The prime minister’s power was so vast and his ability to keep everything under his control was not currently touchable.
“Retreat.” Xiao Ruo waved his hand. The order was only one word but no one could go against him. The archers quickly took their bows and arrows and left, leaving only five people in the area.
Xuean was satisfied and smiled.
Xiao Ruo said, “Now, you can release her.”
“No rush. Wait until I’ve left the city and then naturally, I’ll let her go.” Xuean pulled on Fengguang and step by step, headed out of the city.
Bai Rong: “Wait…”
“Oi, grandma.” Luo Ying blocked Bai Rong’s path and pointed towards the flying sand in the distance. “The sandstorm is almost here, we need to find shelter first.”
“But… Ah, Xiao Ruo!”
Xiao Ruo directly picked her up. “We need to first find shelter. Everything else can wait until later.”
Luo Ying was dissatisfied as he followed behind Xiao Ruo. He kept asking himself why didn’t he think of directly picking her up. He turned back and looked towards the city gate. The yellow sand was already flying everywhere and blurred his line of vision. That brat was capable so Luo Ying believed he would be alright. After he convinced himself again, he couldn’t help but rub his nose. He should be fine, right…
The sky was dark and the loudness of the winds began to roar as the sand and gravel danced through the air. The entire Guangliu City had been swallowed by the sandstorm. All that could be seen other than sand… was more sand, the kind that had an unbearable pungent smell.
Fengguang couldn’t stop coughing. She found that keeping her eyes open was difficult because of the sand and gravel. Even though someone was tightly holding onto her hand, she couldn’t focus and felt as though she was going to be devoured by the ringing wind roars.
Suddenly, some clothing was draped over her head. The man was using his clothes to cover her nose and mouth. In doing so, she was isolating the polluted air from the world outside. Even though it was still difficult, she was able to open her eyes. She stared in confusion at the man in front of her who had stripped. His body was covered with a lot of dirt but didn’t appear to be dismayed or embarrassed.
Xuean pulled her to the bottom of a slope where they huddled together. He also tightened the clothes wrapped around her head. The flying sand carried stones that could hurt others. He gently pulled her into his chest and tightly held Fengguang. She could hear his heart beating. Originally, her face was red because of how suffocated she felt but now she was like a freshly ripened apple.
His lips pressed against her ear and because of his deep, enthralling voice, her heart started to throb. “How could I let the lovely miss endure the erosion of the sandstorm?”
All of a sudden, the sandstorm had become a foil.
