Professor Xi is A Woman? - Chapter 5
“I do not want to marry this man!”
There was a thirty second of silence before the whole wedding hall was in an uproar.
The bride’s voice was so angelic and soothing. She sounded like a fairy from another world.
But that was not the point, the point was, she just said ‘no!’
What the hell did they just hear? Did the bride say no?
The priest wondered if she was in her right state of mind. He was internally screaming.
Oh lord, what was wrong with this woman? Did she drink too much the night before?
The priest coughed slightly, he thought perhaps she didn’t understand him since she was a well-known dimwit.
Hence, he repeated himself but the bride’s reply once again left him speechless.
“No, I don’t want to marry this man. Who gave you the right to get me married”
Jamie felt like the ground under his feet gave away. Why now, of all times, when he was so close to getting what he wanted.
He gripped her hand and asked
Alina felt pain but she pulled her hand back and her eyes filled with undisguised disgust and hatred as she turned to look at him.
“You should know why.”
Jamie didn’t know why but in his heart he felt that she knew of his plan and what she was going to say next would ruin him. But that was not possible.
So, he still asked her, he was confident that this was one of her pathetic antics, so he ignored the anxious voice within him.
“You tell me why. Why do you not want to marry me?”
Alina looked straight into Jamie’s eyes pressuring him to look at her. Her powerful aura spread through the church.
“If you insist, don’t blame me for the aftermath”
She took a deep breath, this was it. Her chance of breaking from this shackle called marriage. She would break free from this nightmare.
“Let’s be honest, I don’t like you. You don’t like me. Why are we even here? I thought I was fulfilling my dead grandparent’s wishes, but I forgot what they truly wished for me was to be happy. And being married to you would never make me happy. I would only drown in sorrow. I don’t want to get in the way of your great love story. I don’t want to be the other woman.”
Her voice was cold, devoid of emotions as if she was merely commenting on the weather.
The people listening to her were astonished. This was not how it was supposed to happen. They wanted to stop her but her powerful aura kept them grounded where they were.
“What can you really do with 25% of my company share? If you are that ambitious to become the head of the Li’s family, you would need to find someone who was even more powerful and ambitious than me.
I wouldn’t marry a man like you, who clearly saw me as a tool. Hence, this wedding is called off. And don’t think I need to explain myself more. I hope you live well with the love of your life.”
The church was silent for a long time, every word she said resounded through the walls of the church.
They didn’t know what to say, after all, what she said was true. She didn’t want to marry a man just to become his tool.
The priest was shocked and utterly amazed. The world of the rich people was truly not something he could comprehend.
He coughed and looked at the groom but to his surprise, the groom stood frozen.
When the groom recomposed himself, it was already too late.
She did not turn back as if he was a mere fly, not worthy of her attention.
Before anyone could react, the rebellious bride, who spoke up for herself, walked down the aisle without looking back.
She left a beautiful illusion of a queen walking her royal parade.
Proud and regal was the adjective that popped in people’s mind when they saw her.
They were clueless as to what triggered the bride to speak up and storm off from the wedding when she was like a meek lamb minutes ago.
After what the bride said and with how she walked off from the wedding, the clueless attendees started to speculate. This was not a wedding between two lovers. This was a political wedding, at least from the groom’s point of view. Was the bride forced into taking this wedding ceremony and took the chance at the altar to escape from this forced marriage? Furthermore, the groom already had a lover! Who was his lover?
Even though she didn’t mention the lover’s name, some people looked in the direction of her sister. Earlier before the start of the wedding ceremony, a lot of them saw how close the groom and the bride’s sister were. They were even almost inseparable. They originally thought it was just the bonding between brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Now that they thought about it, it seemed like both of them had been stealing glances at each other before they started to stick to each other afterwards.
Looking back at the bride, she was truly pitiful. The way her parents treated her….with fake affections and cheap antics, were disgraceful to say the least. Anyone would have treated their adopted daughter better than the way they treated their biological daughter.
Despite being the heiress of a multi-billion company, she had a very simple wedding. This was unheard of.
What did her parents take her for?
Her father stood up, “Alina stop right there! If you leave, I’ll disown you.”
She turned to look at her so-called father with a smirk on her face.
“Like you will?” She raised her brows looking at her father mockingly.
Her taunting voice made the man speechless as he watched her walk away.
Her father stood rooted to the ground, what was wrong with her? Wasn’t this daughter of his, weak willed? She had never once dared to talk back at him. What was wrong with her today?
His wife told him that this child was timid and easy to manipulate. Did his wife give him the wrong information? Or had she changed after being away from them for too long? How dare she mock him!
He had a horrible feeling that she already knew about their plan but this was not possible,as they never discussed it whenever she was in the house.
But if she did, why did she not take any action before this? Why did she turn her back only when their goal was almost reached? They were so close, but then suddenly everything collapsed!
“Father, what are we going to do?”
