Professor Xi is A Woman? - Chapter 4
Flimsy decorations with white lining and beautiful white flower embellishments? She seemed to be in some sort of a fairy tale, yet the appearance of the priest said something else. It appeared to be more of a church than a fairy-tale or hell. It looked so familiar.
But wait! Why would she be in such a holy place?
Wasn’t hell meant for sinful people, since when did the hell become so comfy? Her ears perked up as she heard sounds of laughter.
Since when did Hell become such a pleasant place?
Who the hell laughs in Hell? Was the Demon lord (Hades) having some sort of special occasion?
Oh my god! Was he getting married? Was she a special guest?!
Alina started screaming internally like a fangirl. She didn’t sound like someone who had just died, grieving her death or even afraid of hell.
Poor Alina, could she not fathom what was going on?
As she looked around, her little heart sank when she saw the faces and heard the voices. She now knew why all these people looked so familiar. Those voices and faces, they were part of the nightmare she always had. The nightmare that always kept her awake at night.
It was exactly like that day, the place, the decoration, the people and even the whispers were exactly the same. The same like her wedding day from 10 years ago! What was going on?
How did she end up being here? She remembered dying. She remembered her pain, her blood, and her regrets. She was supposed to be dead, ruthlessly killed by the very people she called her family. These scum of people who were not worthy of her love.
It’s been a very long time since she last visited a church. Whenever she went near a church, her body would tremble involuntarily, and she would also sweat profusely. Ah, that sham of a wedding really left a deep scar in her.
As long as she could remember this was the day where her nightmare began. A seemingly happy occasion. A supposedly normal wedding. The time when she still had hopes and dreams of a new family. But before long, all these turned out to be just part of a nightmare.
Perhaps this really was Hell! The start of her hell!
She never went to any weddings even after she had her freedom. Alina avoided weddings like the plague. She felt that if she went to any wedding, she would be contaminated. She hated the concept of marriage.
It was a waste of time, emotions, energy and money. A futile investment with no profit.
But, that wasn’t the main point here. The point was…
What the heck was she doing here? Her so-called family was here too.
Her father and mother were smiling. Before, it looked sincere but why did she see so much malice in those smiles now?
Her wonderful father, ah! He really was very wonderful.
He didn’t even walk her down the aisle on her wedding day. He was averse to perform the basic duty of a father and didn’t even put up a façade of a good relationship. She was indeed a joke to them.
They only had eyes for their younger daughter while she was just a backdrop for her sister to shine.
Her sister, ah! Her sweet little sister, looking as pure and beautiful as a fresh flower, her mother’s precious child.
She always thought that her younger sister Carolina, was happy for her, but now, Alina could clearly see her teeth gritting in anger.
Why wouldn’t she, which woman in their right mind would love to watch their man marry another woman? And her sister at that.
Oh hell, she was controlling her emotions really well.
Wow, she didn’t know that she would become so sharp and observant at reading people after death. Maybe it was because she had already experienced their cruelty that she was able to discern their true nature beneath the benevolent facade they showed others.
Even then, what was the point? She was already dead. Or, maybe she was hallucinating before dying since this day was her biggest regret!
She was distracted by her thoughts and did not see Jamie’s baffled expression due to the sudden change in her. But before both of them could say anything, the priest started the wedding vows.
“Do you take Xi Ying Yue (Alina) as your lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?”
The man held her hand and replied ‘sincerely’ with a gentle smile forming on his face.
What the hell? She doesn’t want to marry this b**tard the second time. What vows? What promise? He abandoned her and married her sister without hesitation after using her.
In her memory, during the 4 years when she was imprisoned, she never once had space to breathe. She was constantly being suffocated with disgust as she had to pretend not to see her sister and ‘sincere’ husband rolling on her marriage bed.
Those 7 years of her life was just a dream that turned into a nightmare. A nightmare that had crushed her dreams. She used to have a stable job and life but everything was snatched from her.
Everyone accused her of destroying her little sister’s happiness and none talked about how that man was two-timing and cheated on her feelings.
Looking at his charming face, she was reminded of how weak she had been and how easily she gave in, trying to make the man happy with all that she had. But he flung her away after squeezing her dry of any use.
Tsk. She had enough!
She didn’t know what was going on but even if it was just a nightmare, she would do what she had always dreamed of doing. She would not let this nightmare repeat itself!
“And do you take Li ĀnDū (Jamie) as your lawful wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?”
She straightened her back and stood tall, taking her hand away from his without hesitation.
Jamie Li had a very bad premonition when Alina shook off her hand from his grip, but before he could confirm it, Alina beat him to it.
Looking at the man’s eyes she replied firmly, with an aura of a dignified queen.
“No! I do not. I don’t want to marry this man.”
