Prison Officer of the System - 2
Cheerydandan taking over! Here’s the second chapter!
Chun He didn’t have cigarettes anymore.
But Chun He was at peace because Kang Gen had left. The source of the evil that had always kept him smoking was gone.
Besides, Zhan Zhu was here.
There should have been two officers in each area of the prison. But Chun He, after he went through his internship, was a promising prison officer, so he was assigned to Zone 0 of Shanchuan Prison where another officer had been temporarily transferred for a year.
After a year, the temporarily transferred prison officer, Zhan Zhu, returned.
Chun He patrolled around the prison. He went out of the prisoner’s area, inputted his handprint and walked through the bright corridor. The seal on the door of Room 1 was already gone.
Chun He didn’t even spare a glance and walked past Room 1 and stopped at the door of Room 2. Just as he was about to input his handprint,
the door opened.
A man dressed in a black prison officer uniform stood at the doorway and opened the door from the inside.
“Please come in.” The man was polite.
Chun He took few steps back and looked at the room number.
“This is my room.” Chun He spoke.
“I’m your senior officer.” The man replied, still retaining a polite manner.
Higher rank means higher authority.
Although his room had been invaded by the man, Chun He, however, felt that the man had no ill intent. Not to mention, he had already cleaned up all traces of smoke and cigarettes in his room.
Chun He went in and cautiously sat on the sofa.
The man sat across Chun He. He parted his legs, leaned against the backrest and slightly tilted his head, looking more like the owner of the room.
“Zhan Zhu.” The man extended a hand. Chun He gripped half of his palm, “Hi, I’m Chun He.”
After shaking twice, Chun He wanted to take back his hand but Zhan Zhu gripped his hand showing a look of nostalgia.
“Your father,” Zhan Zhu spoke, “You resemble him very much. Not only in appearance but also in temperament.”
Chun He looked at Zhan Zhu’s face. He didn’t look young but he didn’t look old enough to know his father either.
“My father and your father were comrades. They were in charge of the same area.”
But it was quite strange. Once a prison officer is employed, they had no vacations. Zhan Zhu couldn’t have met his father. Chun He showed a look of skepticism.
Zhan Zhu smiled. His smile was different from Kang Gen’s. Kang Gen’s smile always hid a malevolent expression within. Zhan Zhu’s smile, on the other hand, was awfully amiable. It was gentle and friendly.
“My father once sent me a video. He greeted me along with your father.”
Chun He shook his head and said bluntly: “That is a violation of the rules. After becoming a prison officer, you can’t have any contact with your family.”
Zhan Zhu stretched and reclined closer to the back of the chair: “Little things that the Overseer system doesn’t care about can still be done every once in a while. Like when you smoked a cigarette in the bathroom the night before yesterday.”
Chun He froze, “I…haven’t….”
Zhan Zhu smiled. His smile still gentle, “Nothing can escape the Overseer System. Even if you’re a prison officer.”
“By the way, do you know what I did when I was temporarily transferred for a year? It was adding new criminal case data to the Overseer System.”
“During my spare time, I had the privilege to view the contents of the Overseer system. Guess what I saw?”
“A little prison officer who recently joined the service entering the bathroom. Although bathrooms are protected by the privacy law so you can’t obtain footage, but you can see the data.”
“A little prison officer going into the bathroom and suddenly his heart rate quickens moreover there was a very noticeable change in his mood.”
“I’m simply a little curious.” Zhan Zhu’s voice dropped and looked at the slightly rigid Chun He, “Chun He, you’re only secretly smoking, I wonder why your mood seemed like you were on the verge of climaxing in bed.”
Chun He quickly shook his head, “I’m not. I didn’t.”
Zhan Zhu’s voice returned to normal, “Don’t be nervous. I just wanted to tell you that without violating the administration’s rules, some little issues like that aren’t worth paying attention to.”
“Afterall, we’re comrades and will spend the rest of our lives in this prison. I hope to be different in your heart.” After saying this, Zhan Zhu stretched his hand out, “This is what I really think. I’m very glad to meet you, Chun He.”
At night, Chun He laid on the bed, mood somewhat low. Why, he just secretly took a pack of cigarettes from the storage box. He had been very cautious during the whole process. Apparently, everyone knew about it.
Chun He made up his mind that he would never smoke again. This time, he was really serious.
As the days went by, Chun He was very disciplined. He was quite satisfied with himself and felt that he could grow to become a perfect and outstanding prison officer.
A month later, Chun He went to the gate to pick up the new convict. Seeing the person walking in, Chun He was stunned.
Kang Gen whistled frivolously, “Yo.”
Chun He was expressionless as he clamped a controller on to Kang Gen’s limbs. He then handed him a prisoner’s garb and took the clothes Kang Gen stripped off.
As Kang Gen walked to his cell, he raised a hand and put his index finger to his lips, “Senior officer, did you like it when I wasn’t around?”
Chun He pushed him in, refusing to speak.
In the Bible, Adam and Eve lived peacefully until Satan presented them with the forbidden fruit.
Kang Gen is Satan and the forbidden fruit was currently in the storage box.
Chun He sat on a chair cautiously looking at the pack of cigarettes.
If it had been the same kind as before, he might have been able to leave it untouched. Because he was already a little tired of it.
But Satan was Satan.
The cigarettes had changed to a new flavor. And it was one that Chun He had never seen before.
In the middle of the night, Chun He stood inside the bathroom thinking of the sound of the patters and drops of the water beside him. He took a deep drag.
New flavor, new experience.
Chun He squinted his eyes, feeling a little euphoric.
He then felt a light force which propelled him to a firm embrace.
“Ah. I caught you.”
Very awkward.
Zhan Zhu who came to bathe, ran in to Chun He who came to smoke.
Chun He had carefully chosen the time to come over. During this period, there shouldn’t be any prisoners.
But he forgot that there was currently another prison officer. One with more authority than he.
The sound of water grew louder.
Chun He stood up straight, feeling a little peculiar.
He was smoking, while behind him, Zhan Zhu was bathing naked.
Chun He’s cigarette was already finished but he couldn’t go out or even turn around. This was because Zhan Zhu was behind him and the sound of water had still not yet stopped.
Chun He’s uniform was slightly soaked in the steam.
The sound of water finally stopped. Chun He waited for a bit, making sure that there was enough time for Zhan Zhu to put on his clothes and even attach his cufflinks on.
Chun He turned his head and quickly turned back.
The sound of footsteps behind him came nearer. Zhan Zhu smiled, “Made a mistake? Don’t dare to look directly at your senior?”
Chun He turned his back to him and answered loudly, “Reporting. It’s not that I don’t dare to look directly at senior. It’s that I don’t dare to look at the unclothed senior.”
“Oh, I forget. You violated the rules again.” Zhan Zhu’s steps halted.
“Perhaps you need to be punished? For example, dressing your unclothed senior?”
Chun He inconspicuously took two steps closer to the wall, “There should also be punishment for secretly receiving messages from prison.”
“I only have one. But a certain little prison officer has smoked many times.”
Chun He felt the moisture in the bathroom wet his eyelashes and drip down, somewhat pricking his eyes, “The accumulation of numerous small mistakes will at most end up with a life sentence. But one big mistake will end up in court.”
Finally, the shuffling of clothes sounded behind him.
Chun He carefully judged and waited a while after the shuffling stopped and turned around.
This time, Zhan Zhu was properly dressed.
Chun He walked past him but because he walked to fast, his foot slipped, and he was caught by a firm arm.
“I’m sorry, maybe I shouldn’t have played that joke on you.” Zhan Zhu apologized, seeming quite sincere. “We’re comrades. If you’re still upset, you can get back on me next time. You can then take a photo of me smoking. So, if I say something that upsets you, you can threaten me with it.”
Chun He took back his arm and returned to Room 2.
He was somewhat upset, but Chun He was never one to keep himself in a low mood for long periods of time.
If he was, he would not have stolen Kang Gen’s cigarettes every time.
Thus, Chun He walked back to the bathroom once again. Sure enough, Zhan Zhu was still there.
“Remember your words.” Chun He calmly handed him a cigarette. In his other hand, was a miniature camera.
Zhan Zhu took the cigarette and laughed somewhat joyfully.
After lighting the cigarette, Chun He seriously shot several photos, making sure that incriminating material against Zhan Zhu was documented.
Chun He then spoke up, “I’m good. You, however, are not.”
Pointing to the cigarette at Zhun Zhe’s hand, Chun He said seriously, “That’s good smoke, don’t waste it.”
Zhan Zhu had no choice but to place the cigarette on his lips again and smoke the rest of it under the gaze of Chun He.
When the cigarette was finished, Chun He left the bathroom. Zhan Zhu stood under the shower and watched his departing figure. A loving smile emerged on his face followed by an almost inaudible sigh, “Not bad.”
