Otherworldly Convenience Store ☆ One Operation - Chapter 007
Thanks as usual @Chocolala! ❤
Arc 1 Volume 1 – The World of Chaos
The next day, I sold the potions to Randolph.
Randolph transferred a total of three hundred potions into the wooden boxes that the Knights had brought with them, and carried them with his companions.
“Are you Saori? I’ve heard from Randolph that you’re opening a store in an unusual place.”
“I see. It wasn’t the place I chose, though.”
“Whatever the reason, the potions are a big help. Thank you.”
“No, I’m glad I could help.”
A member of the Knights thanked me.
The four knights, including Randolph, were all wearing the same kind of armor.
It seemed that the weapons they used were different, two people carried magical staffs on their backs, and the other two had swords hanging on their waists.
Randolph carried a sword.
Randolph, who transferred all the potions to the carriage, came to the store in the daytime today.
“It’s the first time we’ve met while it’s still bright. I’d really like to spend more time with you, but I have to get back soon because I have to get prepared for tomorrow.”
“I see. Then I will see you in the next ten days.”
“Oh, that’s right.”
“Then, be careful.”
“You too, Saori. Try to stay within the barrier.”
Even without him telling me, I wouldn’t leave the counter.
I always did so, even when Randolph was the other party.
“I’ve put some cooking oil over there, so try using that first. If you are okay with it, I’ll bring more next time.”
A small barrel was placed next to the counter.
“Thank you. I’ll use it.”
“Then, See you again.”
“Have a safe trip, Randolph.”
I’m a little sad that I won’t be able to see Randolph for ten days after we’ve become such good friends, but Randolph and I weren’t even lovers.
It shouldn’t be so bad that I couldn’t see my friend for only 10 days.
I continued to look outside for a while after Randolph’s carriage had left.
The wind was blowing gently in the meadow, and I could see a few birds flying away from the trees in the distance.
I haven’t seen any monsters since then. I think it’s because the royal capital is close by and the knights like Randolph are patrolling.
“As long as the monster doesn’t come here, it’s peaceful.”
At this time, I didn’t know yet. I never expected to experience a series of terrors for several days after this.
— Day one —
The next day, a sandstorm blew across the meadow in the morning. I wondered where all this sand was coming from.
Sand and wind blew in relentlessly through the glassless door. As long as I don’t leave the barrier, there won’t be a problem. So I stayed behind the counter.
The ‘trouble’ that came along with the sand and wind rolled into the store like a crumbling mess as he opened the door of the store.
The one who opened the door and collapsed was a young man wearing a black traveler’s hat and a black cloak.
I was about to rush to him, but then I came back to myself. This is a different world. This is not the warm world I was in.
As I peered over the counter, it seemed that he wasn’t dead.
“Wa, water. Can you give me some water…?”
I poured water into a paper cup next to the espresso machine installed in the store and placed it on the edge of the counter along with the High Heal Potion.
The barrier created an invisible wall right in the middle of the counter.
From inside here, I reached out my hand to place the paper cup and potion so that they were placed beyond the wall.
“Here… Water and a potion if you like.”
The man managed to get up and grabbed the paper cup. After he drank the water all at once, he removed the lid of the small potion bottle and drank that too in one go.
“What happened to you?”
“High potion? Thank you, I was saved. I am… I’m being chased by the ‘Guardian’. I’m sorry, but I need a place to hide for a while.”
The man just sat there staggering and leaned against the open refrigerated display case of the bentos.
It was quite a one-sided statement.
What on earth was he being chased by?
“Just now, when I hold the cup, my hand hits an invisible wall. Is that a barrier?”
“Will you let me ente—… I guess, you won’t. It can’t be helped.”
“That’s right. You can’t enter here.”
“Then at least let me stay here. You’re safe there anyway, right?”
It was unthinkable to invite a stranger into the barrier. Even Randolph had never been inside.
Randolph had said that this barrier might be accessible to those I invited. Or people I have touched.
Still, I didn’t want to try it. I’m not going to let anyone enter this barrier.
This person was said to be chased. Then, wouldn’t it mean that the pursuers might attack this place?
“Who did you say was after you?”
I didn’t know what that meant.
“What is a ‘Guardian’?”
“I’m sorry, but please leave –”
“Okay, I’ll tell you, but you have to let me stay here.”
I didn’t want any damage to the store. I was going to ask him to leave. But he didn’t seem to have the slightest intention of leaving.
“I can’t promise that.”
“But you won’t get out of there, will you? How are you going to get rid of me?”
To be exact, he was a nuisance.
“I’ll explain it to you. But I’m not leaving so please forgive me.”
“Such a selfish…”
“I’m an S-rank adventurer. I’m a treasure hunter.”
The man started talking on his own.
“If you take a carriage from here and travel to South for about forty days, you’ll find a cave designated as A-rank. I was in that cave.
“There was a rumor among the A-rank adventurers that the place was called the ‘God’s Dwelling Cave’, and that it was said to be a place where God-grade items could be obtained.
“My skill [Sixth Sense] had determined that the rumour was true. Thanks to my skill, I have been able to make a living as a treasure hunter, a dangerous profession.
“Then I headed off to investigate and began to conquer the dungeon. As soon as I started mapping, I knew I was in the right place. All the monsters that appeared were A-rank or higher.
“The traps were so ingenious that I don’t know how many times I would have died without my [Sixth Sense] skill. It took me a year to reach a certain door.
“There I saw it. I saw what the girl who came out the door was carrying on her back.
“The girl was carrying a special S-grade item called ‘Great Mage’s Staff’. The staff was wrapped in cloth and was on the girl’s back, but the vibrations of the magic stone embedded in the staff bled with fear.
“I instantly ‘appraised’ it and was surprised to find out that it was the ‘Great Mage’s Staff’. The legendary staff, which is said to defeat the Demon King with a single blow, has been illustrated in many magic books in this world, and everyone has seen it since childhood.
“Of course, there was no way I have seen the real thing before. But my skill told me this one was real. I was convinced. I was sure that the girl had gotten it at the end of this door. I tried to follow the girl, but there was a thin shadow hovering around her like a mist.
“This girl must have been cursed for getting that staff. With that thought in mind, I gave up my pursuit of the girl and headed for the door, but it did not open.
“I activated the [Unlock] function, but it still wouldn’t open. I had no choice but to use [High Unlock], which can only be activated once a year, and finally managed to open the door. Inside, there was only one table in a large space. That’s where I met the angel—”
When the man had talked that much, I felt something strange outside.
I couldn’t keep up with what he was saying, and when I looked outside dazedly, I saw——.
