Otherworldly Convenience Store ☆ One Operation - Chapter 006
Arc 1 Volume 1- The World of Chaos
That was the time displayed on the tablet.
The clock on the wall of the store also pointed to the same time.
In the world I was in, it was night. When I moved to this world, it was day.
And now, as the clock showed, it is morning.
Hadn’t I been transported from the night to the day?
In that one moment, had the flow of time actually sped through day to become night?
I wondered, does time flow in this world in the same way it had flowed in mine?
There is a circulation of electricity and water, and a mysterious translation function.
Maybe it’s better not to think about difficult things in this world.
Something happened today that made me think so.
In my original world, the time shown on the clock was a scheduled delivery time, the second of the day from the CDC1.
It would have been time for the lunch box and rice balls to arrive.
There were three deliveries scheduled in a day. The first one was after midnight, when the time marks the change of the date. The second delivery was to arrive a little after 9 in the morning.
As I was thinking this, someone appeared.
As I was cleaning the counter, I was surprised by the sudden appearance of a visitor.
A horse drawn carriage stopped outside. It was a resplendent covered carriage.
He unloaded a number of boxes from the cart and started carrying them into the store one after another.
“U-um… may I know who you are?”
“Me? My name is Hugo from the Royal Capital Distribution Center.”
“Uh, Hugo-san. What are these packages?”
“They are what you ordered. These boxes contain potions. Please check.”
They really arrived. The elixirs I ordered.
Packed in six wooden boxes, the small bottles seemed to contain potions.
“Ah! Hold on!”
“Where did you deliver this from?”
I hurriedly stopped Hugo-san as he was about to turn away and asked him the question that had been bothering me.
“The distribution center in the royal capital. They are from the collection and delivery center there. We don’t know the sender, we just make deliveries.”
“I see… Thank you… for your hard work!”
“Well, see ya! I’ll go first!”
Hugo got onto the coachman’s platform and rode away.
The sender for all these things remained unknown.
I couldn’t leave the wooden boxes he left as they were, so I carried them inside the counter.
“It’s pretty heavy…”
Normally, I would have to use a POT 2 to inspect the products, but there surely were no barcodes on the products in this world, so I have to count them one by one.
“Is this a Heal or a Cure?”
When I picked up one and looked it up… there was… a barcode.
I took the POT out of the back room, selected the items to inspect, and scanned them.
It scanned without trouble and read [High Heal Potion 99].
There was no mistake, this was the exact potion I ordered.
The potion bottle had a barcode, but there was no indication of the manufacturer.
“Who pays for this product? Is it through bank transfer?”
I checked the ATM installed in the store. The screen was garbled. I didn’t think it could be used.
It’s probably better to think that I’ll be billed later.
In this case, these products cannot be distributed for free. If I don’t sell these correctly and keep the money for the bill, I will be in trouble later.
Randolph came to see me in the evening.
“The potion really arrived?”
“Yes, it has arrived. What do you want to do?”
“I’d really like to have some for the Order’s reserves, what do you think?”
“I’m afraid this would be billed later, so can you pay me the money?”
“Of course. I’ll pay according to the market price.”
I scanned the barcode of the potion at the register.
[Normal Heal Potion 1,000 yen.]
It was displayed on the touch panel of the register.
“It’s 1,000 yen. Are you getting it?”
“Is it a silver coin? I think that’s the market price.”
Did my words “1,000 yen” sound like “a silver coin” to Randolph?
If so, why couldn’t I hear Randolph’s ‘one silver coin’ as ‘one thousand yen’?
It sounded like ‘one silver coin’ exactly as he said it.
What a mysterious translation system.
“How many do you want for the Knights?”
“Well, for each type… I wonder if it was ninety-nine in stock you ordered? I think I want half of them. Fifty of each.”
“Okay. Do you want to carry them out now?”
“Tomorrow I’ll bring a carriage along with backup. I also don’t have any money with me right now.”
“Okay. I understood, Mr. customer.”
If he could pay me properly, I had no objection. I’ve decided to sell Randolph as much as he wants.
“But I’m surprised they actually arrived. Can you check later to see if there are any different products, Saori?”
“Sure. I’ll give priority to you if there are any.”
While I was at it, I decided to ask him if I could get some oil for frying.
“Hey Randolph, is there a store in Royal Capital that sells cooking oil?”
“Yes. Of course there is. Do you want some?”
“You do have it then? I need to replenish the oil. Can you get some for me?”
“Yeah, no problem. I’ll see what I can do tomorrow.”
There was still some stock of cooking oil left in the store. But I wanted to know in advance what cooking oil looks like in this world.
The quality of the oil used in the deep fryer will decrease if it is used continuously. Because until now I was only using it for my own use, I haven’t changed the oil until it can’t be used anymore, but I’ve heard it could be bad for my health if I keep using oxidized oil.
In order to control the quality of the oil in convenience stores, oil test strips were always available.
Acid value was tested using this strip, and when the reading put the oil below 2.5 pH, the oil was replaced.
At our store, we changed the oil twice a week on designated days so that we could change the oil before the acid value rose to that level.
“Oh yeah, Saori, I’ll be here tomorrow to pick up the potion, but the day after that, I’ll be away from the Royal Capital for a while.”
“I’ve got a job as an escort. I’ll be back in ten days, but there will be different people patrolling around here.”
“I see. Have a safe trip.”
When I heard that, I was surprised at the feeling of loneliness that spread in my heart. I thought to myself, ‘This is not good.’
In this short period of time, I had already come to depend too much on Randolph.
The word ‘love’… also came to mind, but I pushed it to the back of my mind.
I have to live alone in this other world.
I must not become reliant on someone else and take them for granted.
I didn’t want to be forced to make a choice in case I could actually return to my original world. I want to return to my original world. It’s natural to go back. It’s unthinkable that I would choose to stick to someone in this world..
I gave myself a warning like reminder.
Because I didn’t want to think that I could never go home again.
I wanted to believe that I would be able to return.
I said to Randolph, all the while trying to hide the loneliness that was about to overflow.
“I’ll be fine, so please work hard on that job… I don’t think I’m lonely… I never think that!”
Am I a tsundere… ?
