Menu wo Douzo : Here's the Menu - Menu 2 Chapter 6
“Master, we don’t have any more puddings, right?”
“Ah, there are still some in the ice box in my private room, perhaps there are two. We’ll manage if it’s only for His Highness’ share.”
Shiori thought of what she should do from now on.
She had had enough; she just wanted to escape from this pudding hell.
Nonetheless, when she thought about His Highness who was so obsessed with puddings, she thought to fetch them from her room.
“Elda, is the preparation done?”
“Yes. The first couple of guests are about to be seated.”
Shiori called out to Elda, who was checking on today’s menu on the board at the entrance of the kitchen.
Elda was a fairy who managed the servers at the restaurant. The fairy tribe had a lot of slender beautiful females, but the ones with tanned skin like Elda looked distinct and sensual. They could even enchant those of the same gender.
Outside from work, she was a good friend who sometimes drink together with Shiori.
“Hey, what does the teriyaki pracool chicken thigh in today’s main menu taste like?”
“It’s a popular seasoning in my country. It tastes sweet and salty. It may be a bit improper, but the thigh meat is rolled in rice paper, so it is alright to eat them with your bare hands.”
“Parallel world style, right, Roger.”
One of this restaurant’s selling point is that you could eat authentic parallel world cuisine there. There are a lot of hotel guests who stayed for that purpose as well.
The number of guests to be seated at the restaurant’s dining hall was decided to be up to 10 groups. The time allocation was decided on reservation basis.
It was quite difficult for them to accept more guests in their present condition; there are even hotel guests who could not dine at this main restaurant.
“Is there any special request from over there?”
“Today’s guests don’t have any special requests, but Marquis Vinia’s guests seated together on the third table are from the dragonpeople tribe, so I would like to serve them bigger portion.”
“Is double portion quite alright?”
(I wonder if the dragonpeople has different appearance?)
Shiori had never seen any dragonpeople before. It may be a bit rude, but she was very interested. The guests were also interested in the chef coming from a parallel world, so both sides often exchange greetings.
“Yes. Is there any extra for second helpings?”
“More or less. However, if they are all double portion, we only have three main dishes as extra.”
“Alright. I’ll take care of that.”
Elda turned over and looked around at her subordinates. Female uniforms resembled what you called maid outfits, and male uniforms resembled what was known as gakuran in the world over there.
“Listen, a lot of our guests today came from a high social position. Please serve them carefully. This is a good opportunity since we are the main restaurant of the state hotel. Please do not forget that we represent Vildania.”
All of them nodded vigorously in affirmation. Their expressions were very serious. Shiori, who wasn’t originally from Vildania felt a little sorry for them.
“Veeda, what will you do about His Highness and his people?”
Last month, Vist, who had just become a waiter, asked to Shiori. The red-haired boy who had just turned 17 was also interested in cooking, and was on good terms with Dinan.
“Hmm…I guess His Highness’ group of 6 people will dine in the left private room as usual. They will start together just like last time. The main dish is different only for His Highness’ group.”
The hotel employees called Shiori as Veeda.
Nuance-wise, it seemed to mean a person who had signed a contract with the prince. Shiori was only told about the nuance, perhaps because there was no suitable word for it. Maybe it was about the crest on Shiori’s left hand.
“Then please start with the aperitif.”
Everyone started to move briskly.
The aperitif is made by mixing pickled large lingonberry that can be found in this area with sparkling wine. It is very fragrant and has a feeling of seasonality. It is a little sweet, but not too sweet, so it doesn’t spoil the taste of the dishes.
For dessert, they prepared mousse made with lingonberry seeds.
“Now, let us begin, Lia, Dinan.”
Shiori turned around and met the two’s gazes.
They both looked back at Shiori and nodded vigorously.
This was the biggest climax of daily routines in the kitchen of Restaurant Diadras…the start of dinner war.
