Chapter 4: Lifetime

She tried to think about something happy.

But when she tried to do so, to remember the time before her junior year, everything was blank. The only happy times she could think about were after she met Qin Ge. That night, when Qin Ge held her for a moment, she really thought that they would be together forever.

The voice of an old man sounded, and then he appeared from the entrance of the tomb.

It was Professor Ai Wei, he was stretching his hand out to Xiao Xia while glaring at Qin Ge angrily.

Lin Yuncong and Qin Ge’s father’s faces sank. “Professor Ai Wei, you are already old. Can you really carry such things? Maybe it’s better to find another leader for the expedition, we don’t want you getting injured.”

Hai Lan silently looked at the Luoyang Shovel¹, not uttering a word.

“Didn’t you want to take it? Why not just take it?”

Qin Ge said lightly and then walked past her with his arm wrapped around Lin Siwei.

“Lao Lin, let’s go.” Qin Ge’s father, Qin Baichuan, said to Lin Yuncong with a frown on his face.

Qin Fei let out a shocked cry and watched in disbelief as Hai Lan reached out to hold the sharp end of the shovel. Blood began to drip down the shovel.

Xiao Xia was so shocked that he released his hold on the shovel.

With a “clang”, the iron tool fell to the ground. Everyone stopped in surprise.

A roar sounded from the professor and he wanted to step forth, but a few of his students stubbornly held him back.

Lin Siwei cupped her mouth with her hand and sneaked a quick look at Qin Ge. She was afraid of seeing any kind of distress in Qin Ge’s eyes. Although his eyes were slightly raised and dark, his eyebrows remained calm.

Qin Fei ran to Hai Lan, “Sister, I’ll help you bandage the wound.” She said, choking up.

Hai Lan stroked her hair with her other hand and said in a soft voice, “Xiao Fei, go with your mother.”

Qin Fei was startled when she noticed her mother was already pulling her away.

Hai Lan smiled, ignoring the clamor around her, and reached out to pull down the zipper of her work clothes.
