Certificate of Conformity - Chapter 42
T/N: Really sorry for the delay.
Face slapping the Entertainment Circle Bigshot (26)
After that day, Chen Heng broke contact with Su Jue.
He also didn’t deliberately check the entertainment news about Su Jue. Chen Heng generally divided the crowd into two groups: those who have value and the those that don’t. Su Jue was undoubtedly part of the latter.
He reverted back to the original host’s old ways, working out, travelling, discussing business and occasionally following several of the original host’s business friends to entertainment places for fun and amusement. He was all just enjoying the fun while it lasted and giving them face while he’s at it. Some people heard that he had recently broken up and especially called over several white skinned and long legged small fresh meats1, who were now standing in a row before him.
“Old Chen, out with the old and in with the new. How do these ones look? They’re not much different than those small white faces2 you used to keep.”
He raised his eyes and swept a glance at the group. Chen Heng didn’t have any interest in the group but he knew he couldn’t just brush the other off in front of his face. He casually pointed at one of them and said, “Him ba.” The youth he pointed at was tall and slim and looked like he didn’t have any muscle at all. He had no sense of existence in the group of beautifully muscled small fresh meats.
The person beside him showed an ambiguous smile, “Then I’ll leave him behind.”
Chen Heng gave an indifferent grunt and the rest of the group withdrew including his two drinking buddies. Only the lucky one who had been chosen remained standing in place, staring at Chen Heng with a foolish expression looking at a complete loss of what to do. Chen Heng hooked his finger at the youth and casually said, “Come here.”
The youth awkwardly lowered his head and paused for a moment before stepping forward towards Chen Heng.
The man patted the seat next to him, “Sit.” The youth complied and sat down beside him.
This familiar scene reminded Chen Heng of the scene when he proposed to sponsor3Su Jue that time at the club. Back then, Su Jue was only 18 and was also as calm and silent as this youth. Of course, Su Jue was very dazzling and absolutely couldn’t be ignored while the boy beside him could only be considered delicate and pretty.
“What’s your name?”
The youth looked down at his fingertips, “He Luo.”
He raised the cup to his lips and brushed his lower lip with his fingertips. Chen Heng thought pensively for a moment before he put the cup down, “Would you like to follow me?”
Under the dim lighting, the youth’s pair of black eyes flickered in surprise. Chen Heng’s lips curved as he suddenly smiled.
“Want to be a star? I can make you popular.”
He Lou’s eyes widened and he gawked at the man across him. He was aware that all the people who could come here were rich and influential. He was somewhat stupefied about this big pie that fell from the sky and hit him4. After a long time, he regained his senses, clenched his fist hard and seized this lone chance without the slightest hesitation, “I’m willing.”
Soon, the news of Chen Heng’s new lover circulated around his circle.
Chen Heng brought He Luo back into his villa and arranged a room for him to live in. When Su Jue left, he didn’t take his clothes away with him. Many of the clothes were new with the tags not even removed yet. Because He Luo and Su Jue were similar in figure, he gave these clothes for He Luo to wear and asked a professional stylist to alter them to his measurements.
After this big makeover, the advantages in He Luo’s looks were highlighted. He was already very white and although it wasn’t a dazzling white like Su Jue was, it complemented his gentle and delicate facial features. In addition, he was young and bursting with youthful spirit. This type was quite rare in the circle.
Chen Heng looked at the new and transformed youth before him. His lips raised in satisfaction. “Very good. Next, I will invite a teacher to teach you acting. I hope you won’t let me down.” If this boy couldn’t bring him benefits then he could only be abandoned.
He Luo looked at him, his eyes filled with seriousness, “I’ll definitely do my best.”
When He Luo came to live with him, the feeling that the house was empty because there was one less person, disappeared.
Chen Heng felt that the way things were now was quite fine. He Luo was very obedient. He always did what he was told and never disobeyed him. The most important thing was that he was very talented and hardworking in acting. That Film Academy teacher that previously taught Su Jue before was full of praise for He Luo saying that he was the most intelligent student he had ever met.
Hearing these words, He Luo wasn’t proud rather he just smiled modestly. Secretly, he glanced at the mean out of the corners of his eyes. He thought that this man was his benefactor. If it wasn’t for him, he would still be in the club waiting to be picked. Where could he stand under the sun as openly as he did now?
He met the youth’s gaze just as he looked over. The corners of the man’s mouth rose slightly, and said in a low voice, “Keep up the good work.”
In his mind, the words Su Jue said before he left unconsciously echoed. He wanted a broader stage, right? Chen Heng disdainfully thinned his lips. Although he didn’t have as much connections or resources as the XingYao Entertainment behind Meng Changfeng, it still wasn’t impossible for him to raise an international star. Su Jue was a little too anxious.
Chen Heng wasn’t a selfless or devoted person. He also had never failed before. He wanted to get back the three years he had wasted through some other way.
He didn’t know if once Meng Changfeng falls to ruin and Su Jue lost his backer, will he regret his choice when he sees that He Lou, who couldn’t be compared to him in either birth nor talent has achieved his dream?
Three months later, He Luo rose to fame relying on his role in a historical idol drama as a gentle and loving second male lead. He jumped to become one of the current popular teen idols and attracted countless young girls to be crazy for him. Next, Chen Heng asked him to play two roles. One as a domineering president and the other as a gentle family man in an idol drama. His excellent acting skills attracted many fans to him, further establishing his status in idol dramas.
Chen Heng also changed his former low-key attitude and frequently appeared on TV and entertainment magazines as He Luo’s agent. He always appeared together with He Luo. Everyone was curious about Chen Heng’s real identity. Some paparazzi with sharp eyes recognized that Chen Heng was quite close to Su Jue in the past and dug out a photo of the two kissing from a couple years ago.
“Mr. Chen, what do you think of the news about Su Jue returning back to his apartment with a mysterious man several days ago? Do you know that mysterious man?”
“It’s said that Su Jue has become a shareholder of XingYao entertainment and is quite close with Meng Changfeng, the president of the Meng Group. Are those two in a secret relationship.”
“Did you ever have a romantic relationship with Su Jue? Is Su Jue gay?”
Facing the media’s inquisition, Chen Heng’s smile remained unabated and he was able to skillfully handle it, “Su Jue and I used to be good friends.”
The reporters grasped on to the key word “used to”, and asked, “Aren’t you friends now?”
He Luo who was supposed to be the protagonist of the event was complete regarded as a backdrop5. All the reporters passed the mic towards Chen Heng and eagerly asked gossip about Su Jue. After all compared to a rookie that had just appeared, stuff about the Film Emperor, who had a brilliant part to stardom, held more weight.
Chen Heng put a hand around He Luo’s shoulder and flashed him an appeasing smile. He then said to the reporter, “I haven’t been in contact with Su Jue for a long time. I’m not too sure about news regarding him.”
He was telling the truth. He wasn’t that gossipy that he would ask news about Su Jue. As for the rumors that these reporters were talking about, this was the first time he had heard about it. It seemed that Su Jue should have already moved in with Meng Changfeng. This was good. He could carry out his Plan B without any worries.
Thinking of that, Chen Heng’s mouth curved up in a confident smile. Paired with the ‘new lover’ at his side, the smile looked particularly spirited under everyone’s eyes.
A slender finger pressed on the pause button and the scene on the TV was frozen on Chen Heng’s smile.
Su Jue tightly clenched the remote in his hand. Because he exerted a little too much force, his manicured round nails faintly turned white. It had been half a year since he left the man. In the past six months, he had successfully entered XingYao entertainment and obtained its shares. His career was also booming and he recently had three movies coming out soon.
As long as he had a little more time—just one year— he would definitely be able to hollow out 6 the Meng Group and bring down Meng Changfeng. However, he who had planned out everything, never anticipated that Chen Mu would have a new lover so soon after he left. In order not to arouse Meng Changfeng’s suspicion, he forced himself not to call Chen Mu during this period. He feared that if he heard Chen Mu’s voice, he would be unable to resist coming back to his side.
Thus, he deliberately blocked any news about the man and numbed his heart. He had thought that Chen Mu would wait for him.
The youth forcefully shut his eyes and with a ‘bang’, the remote in his hand smashed against the ground and broke apart.
When he dropped off He Luo at the hotel arranged by the crew, his phone aptly rang. Chen Heng took it out. When he saw the name that he hadn’t seen in a long time, he was somewhat stunned.
“Who is it ah?” The youth turned and curiously looked at the man who stopped in the doorway.
“An old friend.”
As he said that, Chen Heng received the call, “Hello?”
When he once again heard the familiar voice that had fascinated him, Su Jue’s eyes slightly stung. In the half a year since he left the man, he had become more mature than he was before and, just as the man had once expected for him, had grown into someone who could take care of themselves.
More than three years of being together couldn’t make up for this half-year separation.
Su Jue suddenly blamed him a little. Blamed him on why he was so heartless. But he was the one who had asked to leave so what qualifications did he have to resent him?
He parted his lips and spoke, “Chen…” His voice sounded too hoarse. He coughed lightly and called out, “Chen Mu.”
There were no fluctuations in the voice that sounded from the phone. The youth bit his lips hard until he tasted blood. He then whispered, “It’s been a while. How are you doing recently?”
“I’ve been doing fine.”
Here, Chen Heng glanced at He Luo. The youth seemed to be feeling a bit bored as he stood and played with the cufflinks on his shirt. Chen Heng moved the phone away from his ear and turned to speak to He Luo, “You go to the room first.” He looked down at his sleeve, “If you like these cufflinks, I’ll give them to you.”
Having been told that by the man, He Luo was somewhat embarrassed. He didn’t really want it. He was just somewhat curious about who called.
“Then I’ll go first.”
The youth glanced at Cheng Heng and slowly stepped towards the bedroom.
Chen Heng took back his eyes and put the phone back to his ear, “Hello?”
This time, the phone was silent for a long time. Chen Heng almost thought that the call had been hung up. After looking at the phone’s screen and making sure the call was still ongoing, he spoke again, “What are you calling about?”
What’s the matter?
After half a year of not seeing each other, their words had actually become so distant.
Su Jue was silent and ignored the stab of pain in his heart. He said slowly, “Chen Mu, is it too late for me to come back now?”
