Chapter 8: Part 2 – Arch Enemies
Lu Yao had just finished recording a file and was heading home in his agent, Sis Ming’s, car.
The recording took seven to eight hours; everything was parlor games*, and he was about to collapse from tiredness.
*TL note: 室内游戏- I think this either means clashes of minds during the shoot or that they had to play games nonstop in the studio for the recording.
However, this was the only job he had received in the past half a month—he had to take it.
“There still hasn’t been any new films looking for me recently?” Lu Yao asked exasperatedly.
Sis Ming sighed. “The male lead no. four in that police film has already been taken by someone else, remember? So there’s none for the time being.”
The car came out of the underground parking lot of the TV station. On the LED screen, a TV commercial was played. It showed Jin Yanliu, who, with a heavenly countenance, held a bottle of cream in his hands. His eyes were clear and bright, just like a fairy.
Lu Yao had been extremely tired from the start, and when he saw Jin Yanliu’s face, he directly closed his eyes.
How annoying! No matter where I am, I can’t seem to escape from that brat!
Just why on earth is he so popular?!
Isn’t he just a pretty face?
“As expected, it was he who received this endorsement!” Sis Ming leaned against the car window, her eyes filled with obsession and yearning as she looked at the screen. But upon hearing Lu Yao’s cold snort, she immediately retracted her eyes and coughed with embarrassment.
She felt that she could no longer be Jin Yanliu’s fan.
Sis Ming was pondering over this when suddenly, the phone rang. It was the phone she used for work, thus she did not dare to neglect it.
As she quickly took the phone out of her bag, Lu Yao also opened his eyes and sat up straight.
Sis Ming was stunned when she saw the caller ID. The phone number seemed oddly familiar.
“Is Lu Yao here?”
She’d heard this voice a million times on TV, and so Sis Ming knew at once that it was Jin Yanliu.
“Who?” Lu Yao asked.
“It’s Jin Yanliu,” Sis Ming muted herself on the phone call as she quickly explained to Lu Yao, “He’s looking for you.”
Seeing Lu Yao’s shock, Sis Ming asked, “Are you going to receive the call?”
Why would Jin Yanliu suddenly call him?
Isn’t this too unexpected?
Lu Yao stretched out his hand.
Sis Ming handed him the phone, her eyes lit up in excitement.
“Hello?” Lu Yao was not in a good mood and did not care to be in one.
Jin Yanliu’s voice was still just as annoying as it used to be. “I heard that you haven’t filmed in a long time. I have an available role here, and I think you’ll do exceptionally well in it. Do you want to give it a try?”
“You mean <<Into the Devil>>?”
“That’s right.” Jin Yanliu continued, “I already had people send you the first few episodes of script through email. Take a look at it first; then, you can decide whether you want to try it out.”
Right after he finished speaking, Jin Yanliu hung up.
Sis Ming hurridly asked, “What did you want you for?”
Lu Yao looked at her and replied, “He wanted me to film something.”
Sis Ming wasn’t the only one confused; Lu Yao also found it hard to believe.
He scrolled through his email and found that he really did receive the script Jin Yanliu talked about. When he opened the file, it was the script of the controversial new film, <<Into the Devil>>.
But why would JIn Yanliu look for him to film it?
This is too unreasonable… As the saying goes, one who is unaccountably solicitous is hiding evil intentions!
“Does he want me to be an extra or supporting character?” After flipping through the script, Lu Yao gnashed his teeth. “In his dreams!”
As a veteran fujoshi who’s seen the original work of <<Into the Devil>>, Sis Ming’s squeals contrasted with Lu Yao’s gloomy mood. “Hey, isn’t this Lu Fanglin?! Lu Fanglin was the main character in the original work and had a ton of fans!”
Lu Yao looked up at her.
T-Then… Then it’s even more unreasonable! And that bastard’s evil intentions must be even more evil!
“It’s true, it’s true! Lu Fanglin’s role is really good!” Sis Ming continued feverishly, ”If you don’t believe me, feel free to watch the original work! I already asked about it; they’ll be filming three seasons, and Lu Fanglin is the main character in the second. We should agree and receive the role; this is the best role that we can receive in our current circumstances. Besides, I heard that it will be a S+ production level super film!”
Lu Yao furrowed his eyebrows and harshly bit his lower lip, deciding to take a look at the original novel for <<Into the Devil>>.
There were a lot of people who came to audition today. It was Jin Yanliu’s first time doing this type of work, and he had not expected it to be this tiring when he was just supposed to pick and choose several people.
He glanced at his phone, and as expected, Yan Huihua did not reply to him.
Ji Yanliu rested his phone face down and closed his eyes. He had been so tired the past few days that he directly fell asleep on the car.
