A Warm Short Story - 7 - The Short Story That Was Promised
Tw // Mention of Drug use
Su Yimin shakily pushed open the door to his home, his hands trembling.
Inside, Gu Hao was playing with Yangyang, a smile on his face. Standing up, he opened the door, grinning at the one outside the door. “You’re back.”
After dating him, Gu Hao had slowly learned how to smile. His beaming face was even more handsome, it was so much brighter.
But, his complexion was just terrible.
“What is it?” Gu Hao noticed Su Yimin’s silence and peculiar behavior, he couldn’t help himself from asking.
Su Yimin walked into the house, closing the door with one hand, the other pressed on Gu Hao’s head, and kissed him. Su Yimin was usually a gentle person, but his kiss now was rough.
Gu Hao painfully furrowed his brows, stepping backwards because of the sudden weight. Leaning against the door to brace himself, he grasped onto the other, trying his best to return the kiss.
Ever since they started dating, if Gu Hao forced Su Yimin to shower, Su Yimin would always go, without question. However, now, Su Yimin was doing it at the door…
“You, Why are you so hasty? Have you bathed?” Gu Hao regained control of the other, looking into his eyes.
“Yes.” Su Yimin said.
Gu Hao froze, pushing him slightly away guiltily.
“Then I- Fuck! Wait-! What are you-? Ow…”
A whirlwind of movement and the surrounding objects fell to the floor with a clang.
Gu Hao collapsed on the sofa, his frozen body struggling for a while. When Su Yimin started to cross the line, Gu Hao felt that he had enough and roughly pushed him away. “What the fuck wrong with you?!”
Gu Hao looked at Su Yimin, who was sitting to the side, and calmed down. Feeling apologetic, he reached out a hand to hold him, but Su Yimin didn’t accept it.
“What’s wrong?” Su Yimin looked at Gu Hao and asked. “You didn’t take your medicine, so you don’t want it?”
Gu Hao stared at him, shocked.
Realising that Su Yimin already knew the truth, he swallowed nervously and lowered his head. A while passed before he started speaking in a raspy voice. “I- I didn’t know about this.”
“Now you do.” Su Yimin replied
Gu Hao swallowed again, thinking of what to say, but in the end, he resorted to be silent. He was never good with words.
Su Yimin was silent as well. It seemed like forever until he took a deep breath. “Gu Hao, let’s break up.”
Gu Hao’s eyes widened. He had never thought that Su Yimin would say such cruel words. Stunned, all he could do was to clutch Su Yimin’s hand.
Su Yimin just sighed. “Gu Hao. Let go.”
Gu Hao grabbed his hand, his palm shaking from his uncontrollable/overwhelming emotions. “You … Are you angry?”
His tone became cautious. “Let’s try again, I won’t do that anymore. Just now … Just now, it’s all my fault.”
“No, Gu Hao, I’m not mad at you.”
Those words didn’t calm him, they made him even more anxious. He couldn’t care for anything else, leaning closer towards Su Yimin, trying to seduce him. “Su Yimin, let’s continue. I want you, I want you now! Whichever way you wan-”
“Don’t.” Su Yimin stopped him, saying. “It’s too forced.”
“You’re not allowed to break up with me!” Gu Hao gripped the other’s wrist, eyes filled with desperation. “Fuck! What’s wrong with me consuming drugs? Am I not arousing enough compared to your other ‘friends’?!”
Su Yimin looked at his red eyes and felt a sharp pain in his heart.
He sighed and turned back, helping Gu Hao to adjust his clothes and hugged him.
“Gu Hao, I know, you’re lonely during these years. You wish to be with someone, You’re grateful for my kindness, and you want to repay me in your own way. But not like this. I don’t want to see my lover getting hurt just to please me, to be with me.”
Su Yimin let go of Gu Hao, gently cupping his face. “You are a straight man, don’t force yourself into this. One day, you’ll meet someone who’s right for you, who treats you as well as I have. You must believe, there are many good people in the world.”
“I…” Gu Hao looked at him, wanting to say something, but was cut off by Su Yimin. “I will too. I’ll find a lover who I’m truly suited for.”
Gu Hao looked at him, and finally, slowly, let go.
When Gu Hao and Su Yimin broke up, Su Yimin left the golden retriever to Gu Hao. He told Gu Hao, “This guy, he’s closer to you now. I’ll leave him with you.”
Gu Hao knew that Su Yimin was leaving his dog behind for him. He lowered his head and looked at the dog. The golden retriever had sensed his owner’s sadness and was now circling both of them.
Su Yimin hugged Gu Hao for the last time and patted his back. “Take care of yourself, even if you’re on your own.”
Gu Hao took a deep breath and no longer tried to persuade the other person. He only raised his hands and hugged the other back. “You too.”
It wasn’t clear when Gu Hao had learnt to say anything in such a gentle tone.
It was probably his influence, after being with him for so long.
Su Yimin let go of him and walked away, afraid that if he stayed for longer, he wouldn’t be able to leave.
“Su Yimin.” Gu Hao called out to him.
Su Yimin didn’t look back, only stopping in his tracks, showing that he was listening.
Standing under the shade of the tree, the wind blew through the leaves as Gu Hao said, in a serious tone. “Goodbye.”
Tears suddenly welled up in Su Yimin’s eyes.
He smiled, waving his hand as he walked away. He didn’t dare to speak, lest an odd sound escaped him.
