A Warm Short Story - 5
Based on the fact that Gu Hao didn’t hit him and let him cuddle the other for a night, Su Yimin thought, maybe Gu Hao did have some unique feelings towards him. This mindset gave him hope that, perhaps, he might have a chance.
When he actually thought about it, he should have known how slim that chance actually was. After all, in biology, homosexuality was decided by genes and was considered a failure of the creator. How could such a noble creator fail so many times?
But when people were facing a person they care about, it was hard to think objectively. And Su Yimin was not an exception.
After that, Su Yimin tried many times to turn Gu Hao gay.
In the gay community, making a straight man gay was seen as a dishonest and immoral act.
But on one hand, Su Yimin’s selfishness couldn’t control his thoughts about Gu Hao. On the other hand, Su Yimin felt that when it came to people similar to Gu Hao, what he needed was a person who loved him. As long as there was love, it would triumph over everything.
Su Yimin was confident that no one on this earth would love Gu Hao more than he did.
The divorce of Gu Hao’s parents, his lack of a social circle, him treating everyone with indifference and repulsive attitude, all these reduced the obstacles in his way to Gu Hao.
But Su Yimin eventually still decided to give up.
It wasn’t because of how difficult it was to woo Gu Hao, it was the opposite. He was cold to others, rejecting them; but to him, he was always half-hearted, more relaxed than he was with others.
But at that time, he impulsively pushed against Gu Hao, wanting to kiss him. Gu Hao could very much have pushed him away. But, from Gu Hao’s expression of fear and repulsion, he confirmed that Gu Hao was a straight man who couldn’t be straighter. Gu Hao’s feelings for the other was only gratefulness, but not love.
So he chose to give up.
But he did not expect that Gu Hao would actively hold him back when he chose to let go, let alone in such a passionate way.
If Gu Hao had shown any pain or discomfort that night, no matter how much he seduced the other, Su Yimin would have tried his best not to touch him. After all, he hoped for the other’s happiness, not the other forcing himself to repay him.
However, Gu Hao’s response told him that Gu Hao really wanted him, so much so to the point of starvation. Him pushing the other away previously, it was most likely because he hadn’t understood his feelings then, or was just shy and couldn’t loosen up.
Under this sort of situation, even if Su Yimin was a pope, he couldn’t let go of that person. He wished that he could just devour Gu Hao.
“I’ve heard, someone saw the most handsome guy in university A come out of your house, he can’t even cover all the hickeys on his neck. Tsk tsk.” Su Yimin’s friends asked him jealously: “How did you take down that ice mountain? Share your flirting skills, will you? I’ll go and get a handsome guy too next time.”
Su Yimin hadn’t even opened his mouth when another person decided to be a wet blanket. “Give up, don’t fucking dream, look yourself in the mirror, then look at Su Yimin.”
“Bullshit, if it only depended on looks, there are so many good looking people out there, why does he only like Su Yimin, there must be some techniques. Yimin, tell us!”
“What techniques?” Su Yimin smiled helplessly: “I just treat him well.”
Su Yimin indeed knew how to dote on people.
He only wanted to take care of Gu Hao to make up for the love he lacked in his childhood. It didn’t matter to him that his lover was already a grown man who could send people to the hospital with a punch, he was happy to take care of him.
Su Yimin would remind him to rest and rise early, to eat his meals, to quit his heavy smoking and stop fighting with others even when they disagree. He did all this without finding it troublesome. Sometimes he would seem strict and naggy as he would be overly concerned with him. Still, the temperamental Gu Hao was never annoyed, the most being scoffing and stuffing an egg into his mouth, making him rest before continuing to order him around.
“You haven’t been fighting with others recently.” Su Yimin secretly praised him while they were in the infirmary. “Good boy.”
“Boy? You’re not older than me by that much, are you?” Gu Hao scoffed, who was now more talkative after they started dating, and asked Su Yimin. “How did you know I haven’t been fighting?”
“I asked your teacher, pretending it was nothing.” Su Yimin asked, and leaned in closer, saying in a flirtatious tone, “It’s mainly because, when we do naughty things, I don’t see any new wounds. “
“You, Shut up!” Gu Hao’s face turned red.
Su Yimin always could twist the topic into those things to tease. It was evident that he was successful every time by seeing the reaction that he wanted.
After a while, Gu Hao asked him again. “Do you want me to get rid of my tattoos?”
“There’s no need to remove it.” Su Yimin said.
“I thought you wanted me to be ‘a good child’?” Gu Hao raised his eyebrow, mocking him.
“I just want you to live life properly and be happy every day.” Su Yimin said in a warm voice, looking at him.
Gu Hao was shocked.
Su Yimin hugged him again, softly saying into his ear. “Plus, I don’t want you to be in pain.”
God knew what Gu Hao was thinking. After being silent for a long time, hugged him back and kissed him gently.
That was the first initiative taken by Gu Hao after that incident at the entrance of the gay bar. Even though it was a light kiss, however, because it was light, it seemed unusually gentle.
Gu Hao wasn’t good at doing mushy stuff like this, and blushed almost immediately, burying his face in the other’s neck.
It took him a while to recover, saying in a muffled voice. “It’s no big deal, I’m not afraid of pain.”
Gu Hao got rid of all of his tattoos, those ugly ones that were used to scare people off.
He stopped being so down in the dumps and started to live like a decent human, the expectation of life starting to appear in his eyes.
However, Gu Hao’s spirit didn’t seem all that well, but the reason was unknown. He often seemed lethargic. Su Yimin could detect that after he got together with Gu Hao, he clearly saw that the other was happy. Yet, his complexion seemed to get worse and worse. Gu Hao wouldn’t play basketball or go for jogs anymore, sometimes he would pause for a while and just fall asleep on the sofa.
But Su Yimin was sure that the changes Gu Hao made weren’t fake.
After they started dating, Su Yimin would often bring Gu Hao home to stay the night, he knew that Gu Hao was genuinely learning how to be a good student.
Every night that they cuddled to sleep, he could confirm that Gu Hao slept soundly.
There was one time Gu Hao suddenly got into a fight with someone, and Su Yimin was applying medicine for him, and asked: “Why? Didn’t you promise me to not fight anymore?”
“That bunch of bastards said you were…” Gu Hao paused for a moment and didn’t continue, instead, he furrowed his brows and tightened his broken lip, saying under his breath, “Fuck.”
“A perverted gay? Molesting a good male student? It’s nothing to care about.” Su Yimin smiled slightly.
“I fucking care!” Gu Hao interrupted him, continuing angrily. “What kind of character do those bastards have?! What right do they have to say things like that?! What’s wrong with you liking men?! What does it matter if you fucked me?! I’m happy to get fucked by you?! What is it to them?!” Gu Hao was already red in the face when he reached the later part, but he still shouted it, enraged.
Su Yimin looked at Gu Hao, startled. So, Gu Hao was always worried for him?
Both amused and touched, he consoled the other by hugging him, saying: “Alright, be good. Next time, don’t fight over this type of annoying issue. If you’re alright, that will make me really happy.”
Gu Hao was coaxed till he smiled, his rage lessened by half, a long while later, lowly answered with an “Mn.”
He paused, he still seemed unhappy that Su Yimin was so lovely but was demonised by others, and gently hugged Su Yimin back.
