A Collection of Sweet Danmei Shorts - Chapter 1 Part 2
On Monday the 24th of June, Tu Hang dragged Yang Yi to the cafeteria as soon as the recess bell rang. They were not rushing to eat but at 11:30 am today, all the students who had managed to book their tickets were supposed to claim their tickets at the entrance of the cafeteria.
Yang Yi’s expression was unhappy but he still did not shake Tu Hang’s hand off– He could not bring himself to do it, let alone even think of throwing a tantrum at him.
All he could do was to bear with it on his own.
Because they walked quickly, there was practically nobody there when they arrived, and this saved them time queuing in line.
Yang Yi looked on from the side as Tu Hang took out his phone and showed the person in charge his QR code. After scanning the QR code a staff member handed Tu Hang a form to fill. As he watched all of this, Yang Yi’s heart felt embittered…
Yesterday when Tu Hang had said that he was saving the second ticket for his crush, did that mean he already had someone he liked?
Suddenly a pair of big hands waving about entered his field of sight, bringing Yang Yi back to his senses. He noticed that Tu Hang was standing in front of him, bent at the waist and he was saying something.
“Hey, what are you day-dreaming about, I’ve already got the tickets, let’s go.”
Tu Hang naturally pulled Yang Yi by his left hand, “Let’s go and eat.”
Yang Yi’s coldly shoved off Tu Hang’s hand, his tone defiant and hard as he replied, “I’m not hungry. You can go eat.”
He paused then continued, “Or you can eat with that person.”
Without waiting for Tu Hang to reply, he turned around and started to walk away.
Tu Hang looked on cluelessly as Yang Yi walked away, he still could not make out what Yang Yi had meant by that.
After spending some thought, he finally understood what Yang Yi was referring to and smiled to himself.
Was Yang Yi jealous?
If that’s the case, then good, I want him to be jealous.
Yang Yi quickly walked toward the boys’ dormitories, he soon realized that Tu Hang was not following him, and he became angry and upset. He took out his anger by kicking a nearby stone, the stone did not budge but he ended up hurting his toes.
Walking against the flow of the crowd Yang Yi felt his eyes watering, he could only tilt his head down to avoid being noticed.
Once he was back in his room, there was not a single soul that came to see him, he slumped down in a heap, his hands embracing his head — devastated.
That bastard Tu Hang, he said he was going to give it to his crush, how could it not be for me, does he even think of me as his good friend?
No, it was he who did not see Tu Hang as a brother.
To be Tu Hang’s boyfriend
He liked Tu Hang.
He had liked him for a long long time.
Ever since primary school, only God knew, just how much he had to control himself around Tu Hang. How he spent every second of every day keeping his feelings hidden.
But Tu Hang did not like him, he was straight and attracted to girls. Yang Yi could not change him, that would only hurt Tu Hang.
And now Tu Hang had someone he liked.
Tomorrow, Tu Hang would go to that Yu Peng fan meeting together with that person.
And after that, they would kiss and do things only lovers do.
And in the future, there would no longer be any space for him beside Tu Hang, they would no longer be “Brothers”.
Perhaps in the future, he might not even be of any importance to Tu Hang.
Yang Yi raised his hand to wipe off the tears leaking out from the corners of his eyes. He turned and faced the wall as he closed his eyes and clutched his heart.
The thought of Tu Hang no longer belonging to him utterly shattered his heart, he felt unbearable emptiness.
But wait, it was wrong to think that Tu Hang had ever been his in the first place. After all, Tu Hang had never felt affection for him before.
Tu Hang bought two packets of rice and vegetable takeaways and walked straight up to Yang Yi’s dormitory. He gently knocked on the door but no one answered. The door opened with a slight push, Yang Yi must have forgotten to lock the door.
“Yangyang, let’s eat, I bought your favorite sweet and sour pork for you.”
Yang Yi was lying on his bed, so Tu Hang placed the food on the table, then he glanced across the room and saw Yang Yi was still motionless on the bed.
He walked up to him and patted his shoulder, “Stop acting, come and eat before the food gets cold.”
Yang Yi still did not respond and this struck Tu Hang as being odd. With one move of his hand, Tu Hang flipped Yang Yi over. He had thought that Yang Yi was pretending to sleep, but what he saw was Yang Yi’s tear-stricken face and tightly pursed lips.
He knew that Yang Yi always did this when he was sad.
Could it be that knowing he had a crush had made Yangyang so heartbroken?
He reached out and gently brushed his hand against Yang Yi’s porcelain white face.
Not surprisingly this action jolted Yang Yi awake.
Still drowsy from sleep Yang Yi instinctively gave a big push and nearly knocked over the unsuspecting Tu Hang.
Yang Yi opened his eyes and saw Tu Hang by the opposite side of the bed. Having just experienced a nightmare, his expression was far from cheerful and he was feeling really down. Even the sight of Tu Hang could not bring a smile to his face as it did so many times in the past.
“What are you doing here?”
He rubbed his forehead and wiped off the tears stains on his face– He knew that Tu Hang had definitely seen them, but he did not feel embarrassed because Tu Hang probably did not know why he was crying anyway. Tu Hang would only assume that Yang Yi had a nightmare, and it was true that he had a nightmare.
Tu Hang said with a caring tone and a calm look on his face “You did not get a chance to eat just now, so I thought I’d bring you back some food.”
Yang Yi was smiling bitterly to himself. It was all because Tu Hang was so caring, and always looking out for him — even if he sometimes would tease him– that was the reason why Yang Yi had fallen so deeply in love with Tu Hang, yet he did not dare to pour out his feelings to anyone.
Was this why things ended up the way they were now?
He said: “Tu Hang, don’t be so good to me.”
I do not want to fall any further, now that you have that person, I should leave you. So, please, don’t be so tender and caring toward me, I can’t take it anymore.
Tu Hang asked: “Why?”
Hiding from Tu Hang’s gaze, he saw the desire to know in Tu Hang’s eyes and it weighed heavily on him, causing his breath to shorten.
“It’s nothing.” Just because I like you.
Tu Hang walked up to Yang Yi and held his chin up toward him, not allowing Yang Yi a chance to look away.
“Are you sad?”
“Was it because of what I said?”
“Because I said I was saving the ticket for my crush?”
Tu Hang continued to ask one question after another, Yang Yi remained silent but could not escape the other’s gaze. His eyes were locked and staring straight into Tu Hang’s eyes.
“I know that you’re actually jealous.”
Yang Yi’s eyes flickered with a hint of relaxation, a hint of begging.
He wanted Tu Hang to stop but Tu Hang did not care, he continued asking,
“Then your jealousy, where does it come from? Who are you to feel jealousy for me? Is it because we’re brothers?”
Yang Yi’s eyes once again showed signs of panic.
“Actually you like me don’t you.”
Tu Hang said this and carefully observed Yang Yi’s reaction.
Dumbfounded, Yang Yi panicked as he struggled to free himself from Tu Hang’s grip, lowering his head.
He could not muster up the courage to look Tu Hang in the eye.
Was Tu Hang testing him?
Or could it be that he knew all along?
What was he going to do next?
Would he have to distance himself from Tu Hang?
Yang Yi did not dare to think about what might happen next but he just could not control his thoughts.
He was shaking, he did not know if it was from fear or sadness.
“You like me.”
It was this sentence that crushed Yang Yi’s heart.
He closed his eyes and said: “That’s right, I like you. Ever since primary school, I’ve liked you.”
I like you, I like you a lot, words can not describe how much I like you.
After saying this, he felt the weight of the world come off his shoulders.
Although he knew that saying it would mean nothing because there was no way on earth that Tu Hang would feel the same way about him, all it would do was to make Tu Hang hate him. This would be the end of their friendship that had lasted so long.
Yang Yi was in the throes of sadness, as he wallowed deep within his unhappy feelings, he suddenly felt his body uncontrollably pulled forward.
Tu Hang gently embraced Yang Yi. He placed one hand on Yang Yi’s shoulder and his other arm around his waist. Yang Yi was forced to lift his head as their two faces suddenly became much closer to each other. The tips of their noses were touching, their every breath merging together.
He could vaguely hear something by his ear, it was a familiar and soothing voice, the words it said were, “That’s odd, I too, like you. I have liked you from the very first day I saw you, my big baby Yangyang. That ticket, it’s especially for you.”
Then, something warm and soft pressed onto his lips.
It was done with the utmost tenderness.
